Lucasfilm surprised fans when it announced Din Djarin and Grogu would continue their adventure on the big screen in The Mandalorian & Grogu. As the first Star Wars film that will be out in theaters after the 2019 Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker, production has been moving forward and will reportedly begin this summer. As the summer season has already started, the movie’s actors are probably gearing up for production by now. That said, Simon Kassianides seemingly hints at his return after revealing he's preparing for a role.

Kassianides shared an Instagram post showing his fit physique while in a gym to honor all the dads in the world on Father's Day. Though his post looked like nothing, with him saying all the fathers trying to say fit inspired him and tagging several accounts that he claimed were guiding him, his revelation that he was getting fit for a role caught the attention of many.

“To all the fathers out there trying to keep fit - you guys inspire me. I’m getting fit for a role and have had some great guidance thanks to the following pages - informative, good people who know their stuff and inspire,” he wrote. “Thanks guys - I may not be a client but sharing your knowledge and expertise has so many knock on effects out there.”

In the comment section of his post, many assumed that he was preparing to reprise his role as Axe Woves in The Mandalorian & Grogu. However, the actor remains mum about it, not answering his followers' questions about the mysterious role he’s about to play. Despite that, he liked a fan’s comment asking if he would return as Axe, seemingly adding credence to the assumption.

Will Simon Kassianides return in The Mandalorian & Grogu

Kassianides first played the role of Axe in The Mandalorian Season 2. He was a Nite Owl loyal to Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) until she lost the Dark Saber to Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal). He returned in The Mandalorian Season 3. Though he fought against Bo-Katan, he later ended up becoming her loyal ally. However, it was the last time fans saw him. Now, it looks like he’s about to return to The Mandalorian & Grogu.

If this happens, it will greatly affect the movie’s storyline, especially if it involves Mandalore. Aside from coming from the said planet, Axe is Bo-Katan’s trusted advisor on Mandalore. As Din Djarin and Grogu are going on a new path after the end of the third season, working under the table for the New Republic while living on Nevarro, the film’s focus is believed to be not on Mandalore.

But if Axe appears in the film, it may connect Din Djarin’s story to Mandalore, and he may serve as the liaison between his home planet and the galaxy’s central government. Following this theory, he may play a major role in the upcoming Star Wars movie.

Fans are advised to take this assumption with a grain of salt, as nothing is confirmed yet. But with Mandalore’s importance in the series, becoming a flagship show for Disney+, this may not be far from happening.

The Mandalorian & Grogu is set to release in theaters on May 22, 2026.
