It has been almost three years since the Netflix K-drama Squid Game took the world by storm with its dystopian take on capitalism. With its success, receiving critical acclaim and international attention, it has been renewed for a second season in June 2022. As fans patiently wait, lead star Lee Jung-jae finally gives a release update and reveals when Squid Game Season 2 will hit the small screen.
In an interview with Business Insider on the Disney Upfronts red carpet while promoting his new show, Star Wars: The Acolyte, Jung-jae was asked if he could tease anything about the upcoming Squid Game Season 2. Though the actor didn’t give anything away about the new season’s plot, he gave a major update that excited many.
“It will be released in December,” he said through an interpreter.
However, Netflix’s reps have yet to confirm this release window and haven’t responded with a comment yet. But it’s good to note that the streamer’s co-CEO Ted Sarandos told The Hollywood Reporter that it would be released “sometime in 2024” during an earnings call in April.
Also, when the streaming giant released its slate of new TV shows and movies for 2024 in February, it dropped a teaser of Squid Game Season 2, noting it would come out “this year.” But fans don't have to worry, in an interview with Netflix in December 2023, series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk assured the wait would be worth it.
