Ahead of last year's release of the animated Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, franchise producer and former Sony studio executive Amy Pascal teased plans for a live-action Miles Morales film and a Spider-Woman Spider-Verse spinoff. "You'll see all of it," Pascal said back then. "It's all happening." However, don't expect Miles Morales to join the live-action Spider-Verse anytime soon.
"Someday. Not until we make two more movies," Pascal said during an interview with Variety about a live-action Miles Morales at the 2024 Oscars Luncheon. "Someday. Someday. We're very happy doing [the animated Spider-Verse movies]."
Phil Lord, producer and co-writer of the Spider-Verse trilogy, added: "She's right. She's the boss."
In July, 2023, the third movie of Sony Pictures Animation's Spider-Verse animated trilogy, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, was removed from the release schedule (March 29, 2024 at that time), reportedly due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. Following the conclusion of the strike last November, Deadline Hollywood reported that the voice recording for the movie would resume. Beyond the Spider-Verse was said to be the final movie in the trilogy, but based on what Pascal said, it sounds like they will be splitting the final film into two parts.
Last June, Pascal said she was open to one day crossing over Sony's Spider-Verse with Disney's Marvel Cinematic Universe — but for now, the producer wants to continue making more Spider-Man movies with Tom Holland's Peter Parker. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, she said:
They're completely separate worlds. You never know. I would never say no to anything. But we have a lot of movies to make about Miles and a lot of movies to make about Peter. I am a movie producer. I want to keep going with this franchise with Tom.
Will live-action Miles Morales appear in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse?
In the animated Spider-Verse trilogy, Miles Morales of Earth-1610 is being voiced by Shameik Moore . Donald Glover — who played Miles Morales' uncle, Aaron Davis, in the 2017's MCU film Spider-Man: Homecoming — surprisingly appeared in Across the Spider-Verse as an alternate version of the live-action Prowler. This suggests that there's a possibility that a live-action Miles Morales will show up in the next animated Spider-Verse movie.
