It centers on the interactions of protagonist Kumiko Oumae, her friend Reina Kousaka, and rival Mayu Kuroe as the Kitauji High School Concert Band moves toward the end of its story. The video also presents new scenes from the film now playing in Japanese theaters, tying the theatrical cut to the series’ span since the television anime began in April 2015.

Jukki Hanada remains series composer, and Shoko Ikeda and Kazumi Ikeda return as character designers, with Kazumi Ikeda also serving as chief animation director. Music is again handled by Akito Matsuda in cooperation with Senzoku Gakuen College of Music and Progressive! Wind Orchestra, and the anime continues to be produced at Kyoto Animation.
What is Sound Euphonium is about?
Sound! Euphonium is based on the novel series written by Ayano Takeda, with illustrations by Nikki Asada, and it belongs to the musical and slice-of-life genres. Takarajimasha published the novels in Japan under the Takarajimasha Bunko imprint, with the English-language edition handled by Yen Press, and the series ran from December 5, 2013, to June 27, 2024, for a total of 14 volumes.
The story follows euphonium player Kumiko Oumae and her years with the Kitauji High School Concert Band as the group tries to achieve gold at the National Competition. Across that stretch, Kumiko deals with the pressure of performing and with the strain that comes from her relationships with friends, family, and peers. Sound! Euphonium frames those conflicts as a youth drama about facing challenges that can seem insurmountable, and it places a large emphasis on the music itself through an expansive soundtrack and extended performance scenes.
The Sound! Euphonium television anime is streaming on Crunchyroll, including the third season that is being compiled into these final films. Crunchyroll’s series description opens in the spring of Kumiko’s first year of high school, when the former junior-high brass band member visits the high school club with classmates Hazuki and Sapphire and comes across Reina, a former classmate. Hazuki and Sapphire decide to join the club, but Kumiko cannot yet make up her mind.
