The lost love story of Rogue and Magneto will finally be revealed by Marvel Comics, as the controversial X-Men couple are set to return to the Savage Land for a retro limited series from a talented team of modern creators. Set during the catastrophic events of Uncanny X-Men #269-275, Rogue: The Savage Land is set to fill the gaps regarding one of the most popular X-Men adventures, and promises to be full of "jungle action, untamed romance and more" when it releases early 2025.
As Polygon first revealed, Rogue: The Savage Land is written by Tim Seeley, known for his recent work on Wolverine and Venom War, with art by Zulema Scotto Lavina, who makes her Marvel Comics debut with the new miniseries. The untold story takes fans back to the late 1890s/early 1990s Uncanny X-Men run by comic legends Chris Claremont and Jim Lee.

Rogue's experience in the Savage Land happened during Chris Claremont and Jim Lee's legendary X-Men run. In Uncanny X-Men #269, the energy-absorbing mutant fought Carol Danvers, who was still known as Ms. Marvel at this moment. During their face-off, Rogue was pushed through a portal into a
Her time in the Savage Land had a profound effect on her, as she was forced to depend on her strengths and skills after her powers diminished. The experience made her stronger and made her less dependent on her mutant powers. However, the details of how she survived her time in the Savage Land were not shown in Uncanny X-Men. In fact, her story was not revisited until Uncanny X-Men #274, where saw her stranded in Savage Land, donning her bikini-style outfit as she tried to survive nature without her powers.
During her time there, she found herself in an alliance with Magneto and Ka-Zar against the sorceress Zaladane. This led to a brief and somewhat controversial romance between Rogue and Magneto. Rogue: The Savage Land will explore what was teased in the original three-issue arc, and we can expect a steamy romance between the two.
“In these five issues, I get to utilize my love for X-Men, Jim Lee, Chris Claremont, Zabu, scantily clad heroines (and heroes!), and probably most importantly: dinosaurs,” Seeley said in a statement via Polygon. “Alongside my collaborator Zulema Lavina, we’re going to deliver something fresh while honoring the impossibly sexy and epic classic tale of a young Rogue and two of the weirdest allies a girl from Mississippi could ask for: Magneto and Ka-Zar.”
Zulema Lavina sounds excited for the project, telling Polygon she "immediately fell in love" with the series, and says, "It is great to collaborate again with Tim Seeley and I hope the readers will enjoy this amazing story as much as I am. The character of Rogue is full of empathy and determination, the iconic Savage Land setting is fantastic, the story is full of wild and unexpected stuff — I can’t wait for you to read it!”
