Fran and her talking sword are back. The second season of Reincarnated as a Sword is now streaming a full week ahead of its broadcast premiere, and fans can now watch a creditless version of the new opening sequence online.
The opening video features the season's opening theme, DREAM OF BUTTERFLY by FZMZ. The digital single for the song drops on October 7, the same day the season officially premieres, and fans can pre-save and pre-add it now on their music platform of choice.
The early streaming launch gives viewers a head start on one of the fall season's most anticipated isekai returns. Season 2 continues the story of Fran, the young catgirl warrior, and Shishou, the sentient sword who serves as her teacher, weapon, and closest companion.
The original Reincarnated as a Sword light novels come from author Yuu Tanaka, who serialized the story on the Shosetsuka ni Naro website from October 2015 to February 2024. Micro Magazine publishes the print edition with illustrations by Llo under its GC Novels imprint, with 21 volumes released in Japan to date. Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the English-language version for North American readers.
Shinji Ishihara directs the second season at animation studio C2C, with Kazunobu Shimizu serving as assistant director. Takahiro Nagano handles series composition and scripts, while Atsuko Saito provides character designs and serves as chief animation director. The music comes from Yasuharu Takanashi of Team-MAX, a veteran composer whose credits include Fairy Tail and Naruto Shippuden.
HIDIVE is streaming Reincarnated as a Sword Season 2 as it airs. The platform describes the series as a twist on the standard isekai formula: instead of being reborn as a powerful warrior or a skilled wizard, the protagonist wakes up in another world as a sentient sword.
The story begins when the sword is taken up by Fran, a desperate girl fleeing captors who intend to sell her into slavery. With her new weapon's guidance, she strikes down her captors and secures her freedom. Together, the unconventional master-student duo set out on a journey to liberate those in need and exact justice on the cruel of heart.
The first season introduced viewers to Fran and Shishou's bond as they climbed the adventurer ranks and took on increasingly dangerous quests. Season 2 picks up with the pair facing new threats, new allies, and new evolutions in both Fran's swordsmanship and the mysterious powers sealed within the blade itself.
For fans who have been waiting since the first season aired, the creditless opening is a first real taste of the new season's visual direction. Opening sequences often set the tone for an entire cour, and C2C's new visuals paired with FZMZ's high-energy track suggest the studio is leaning into the series' blend of heartfelt character moments and hard-hitting action.
