Finally, after the light novel series’ first serialization in 2011, Re:Monster was adapted into anime by Studio Deen. Officially announced on September 19, 2023, Tomokui Kanata is about to dominate the small screens and continue his story after being reincarnated as a goblin. The anime has dropped a new preview to give a glimpse of this new adventure, along with some major details about the series. You can check the teaser below:

The Re:Monster preview begins with Tomkui Kanata recalling the day he died after being stabbed and waking up in front of a mysterious little green monster. After his death, he realizes he is reincarnated into a green, powerless baby goblin. With the second life he receives, he promises he’ll do everything in his power this time as an intense fight begins.

The scene then shows Goburo, Kanata’s goblin reincarnation, showing his strength, followed by Gobukichi, his companion, declaring how strong he has become. The next sequence shows Gobu Beauty, another comrade, who shows her affection for the young goblins. Her adult version, an alluring beauty, then appears.

The preview then introduces Gobue, who’s also part of Goburo’s group, asking someone not to keep her waiting. Lastly, Red Hair Short, a novice adventurer, shows her fighting skills as she attacks a jumping deer. The five then go to a fight, as Goburo declares to make peace and prepare for a battle.

Aside from the preview, Re:Monster released two key visuals featuring Goburo in his adult goblin version. The other one also shows him, along with Gobukichi, Gobu Beauty, and Gobue, from when they were babies to when they’re already adults.

What is Re:Monster about?

Re:Monster follows the story of Tomui Kanata after suffering an early death, but it doesn’t mean his adventures are over. He’s reincarnated into a fantasy world full of swords and magic, though as a member of the weakest race, a goblin named Rou. Despite that, he won’t let this transformation stop him and uses his abilities and old memories to continue his life by consuming other creatures and taking their strengths and powers.

You can read the synopsis below:

Tomokui Kanata has suffered an early death, but his adventures are far from over. He is reborn into a fantastical world of swords and magic-- as a lowly goblin! Not content to let this stop him, the now-renamed ‘Rou’ uses his new physical abilities and old memories to plow ahead in a world where consuming other creatures allows him to acquire their strengths and powers.

Based on the light novel of the same name written by Kogitsune Kanekiru and illustrated by Yamaada, the series originally ran from 2011 to 2018 on the website Shosetsuka ni Naro. It was later acquired by AlphaPolis and published nine main volumes, a side story volume, and an extra volume from 2012 to 2017. It was then adapted into a manga, which now has 10 tankobon volumes and is still running. In addition, a sequel light novel series, Re:Monster: Ankoku Tairiku-hen, written by Kanekiru and illustrated by Naji Yanagida, started its publication in 2018, with three volumes released so far.
