Star Wars Eclipse, first unveiled at The Game Awards in 2021, is an action-adventure game set in the Star Wars universe’s High Republic era, a time centuries before the Star Wars films when the Galactic Republic flourished amid emerging galactic threats. Developed by Quantic Dream in partnership with Lucasfilm and Disney, the game will explore an uncharted Outer Rim region, introducing new characters and species.
After limited updates since its announcement, Quantic Dream has reaffirmed the project’s active development. “Of course, development of Star Wars Eclipse continues, and we are eager to share more with you in the future,” the studio declared in a recent blog post, addressing concerns about the game’s status.
The game’s narrative will feature a diverse cast, as described officially: “See the galaxy through the eyes of an ensemble cast of multiple, charismatic playable characters, each with their own morality, personality, motivations, and impact upon each other and the story at large.” True to Quantic Dream’s style, seen in titles like Heavy Rain and Detroit: Become Human, Star Wars: Eclipse will emphasize branching storylines, dialogue-driven gameplay, and moral choices that shape the narrative’s outcome. Players will navigate complex relationships and decisions in the Outer Rim, immersing themselves in a fresh Star Wars experience.

While Star Wars Eclipse remains a flagship project, Quantic Dream is also venturing into new territory with Spellcasters Chronicles, its first multiplayer game, slated for a closed beta later this year. This expansion into multiplayer gaming marks a bold shift from the studio’s single-player roots.
To support these endeavors, Quantic Dream has doubled its development team since 2018 and opened a new studio in Montreal, bolstered by its 2022 acquisition by NetEase. These resources strengthen the studio’s capacity to deliver on its ambitious projects. Since its founding in 1997, Quantic Dream has released five acclaimed titles: The Nomad Soul, Fahrenheit, Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human, each known for pushing interactive storytelling boundaries.
The studio expressed optimism about its future, stating, “This is the beginning of a new chapter for Quantic Dream. Thank you for being with us on this journey, we can’t wait to share what's next.” With Star Wars: Eclipse advancing and Spellcasters Chronicles on the horizon, Quantic Dream is poised to make a significant impact in gaming.
