Disney+ recently revealed a new release date for the eagerly-awaited Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, along with a new teaser trailer. The series will premiere with a two-episode launch on December 30, 2023. The teaser also features plenty of brand-new footage from the much-anticipated upcoming Disney+ series, including a couple of looks at the major trio.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ first couple of episodes will follow the events of Rick Riordan’s The Lightning Thief, which is the first entry in his popular and exciting Camp Half-Blood Chronicles book series. Rick Riordan is the co-writer, executive producer, as well as creative consultant of the upcoming Disney+ series.
Riordan previously shared that Season 1 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will be an adaptation of The Lightning Thief and will follow the story of the 12-year-old demigod known as Percy Jackson. The chosen demigod begins his daring quest to search for the lost lightning bolt of Zeus, who is played by the late Lance Reddick, alongside his allies, Annabeth Chase and Grover Underwood. Once the bolt comes under their possession, the trio is required to restore order to Mount Olympus.
Disney+ announced the production of Percy Jackson and the Olympians back in May 2020. This was five months after Rick Riordan successfully pitched the idea of the series to Disney.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Cast
The fans of the Percy Jackson franchise are already aware that this series is only the first step into the vast universe of the novel. With that being said, only a handful of characters are set to debut in Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 1, with the rest being kept safe for future installments. The Percy Jackson series will feature Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson, Leah Jeffries as Annabeth Chase, and Aryan Simhadri as Grover.
In addition to the primary trio, we can also expect to see Luke (Charlie Bushnell) and Clarisse (Dior Goodjohn) in Camp Half-Blood. However, when it comes to Mount Olympus, Ares (Adam "Edge" Copeland), Zeus (Lance Reddick), Poseidon (Toby Stephens), Hermes (Lin-Manuel Miranda), Dionysus (Jason Mantzoukas), and Hephaestus (Timothy Omundson) are all set to show up. Looks like an exciting set of actors and actresses, and we can’t wait to see them on screen once the show releases!
Percy Jackson and the Olympians is set to release on December 20, 2023, on Disney+.
