We're still over a year away from the release of Avengers: Doomsday, the penultimate epic of the Multiverse Saga, and the rumor mill is already swirling like crazy. The Russo Brothers-directed by The Russo Brothers film has been a hotbed of speculation ever since it replaced the originally planned Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Now, a new rumor suggests that the fifth Avengers flick could mark a true changing of the guard in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the end of an era for one of Hollywood's most celebrated actors.
On Kristian Harloff's recent YouTube stream with John Rocha, it was reported that Avengers: Doomsday will serve as Sir Patrick Stewart's curtain call before stepping away from acting. Harloff didn't provide further information, but at 85, it doesn't sound surprising that Stewart would want to conclude his career. You can check out the stream below:
Stewart is among the stars confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, along with his X-Men film contemporaries Sir Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Alan Cumming, and Rebecca Romijn. Charles Xavier last appeared in 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where he succumbed to the Scarlet Witch's barrage.
However, it's worth mentioning that the one who died in DSMOM is actually Earth-838 Charles and not Professor X from the main Fox timeline. While it's still best to take this report with a huge grain of salt, it may serve as a major spoiler for Professor X's fate in Doomsday.
Sir Patrick Stewart's acting career began in 1959 on the stage, where he built a prestigious classical foundation over two decades as a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), before achieving global recognition in 1987 as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Going back to the report, the same stream was also home to several other MCU rumors, including reports of supposed plans for the franchise's next saga. Apparently, the Summers family (Cyclops and Jean Grey) will be the X-Men reboot's focal point and NOT Wolverine, despite the adamantium-wielding mutant's presence in the multiverse saga.
The MCU has been plagued by several issues since the Multiverse Saga's inception in 2021, and it's no secret that the franchise must finish strong. Hopefully, Doomsday and Secret Wars both deliver because the success of the mutant saga heavily depends on their critical and box office performance.
Avengers: Doomsday is slated to hit cinemas on December 18, 2026.
