Oshi no Ko Season 2 finally aired this week, and the official YouTube channel of the mystery supernatural anime has released the animation videos for the new opening and ending theme songs. The second season's opening song is Fatale by GEMN, a new unit made up of Kento Nakajima and Tatsuya Kitani. The duo performed the opening song for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 anime. The opening may not be as catchy as Season 1's Idol by YOASOBI but the music is still fitting to the upbeat themes of the anime.
The opening animation was directed and storyboarded by Ryohei Takeshita (director of Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night, Pokémon: Paldean Winds, Eromanga Sensei), and there's a lot going on in it. It shows Aqua and Ruby removing their faces — as if they were masks — to unveil the appearances of their past lives. The opening also features the spectre of Ai dancing on stage in front of her children and acquaintances, as well as other psychological-horror imagery.
The ending animation is Ruby-centric, and features the theme song Burning by Hitsujibungaku. There's a lot less going on here, but no less impressive. Shown in a widescreen format, it features mesmerizing imagery and animation, including shots of Ruby dancing alone as ink-like color falls into the background. Naoya Nakayama (Idol music video and the first season's ending director et al.) is the director and storyboard artist of the ending animation, and he is also credited as 3DCG artist and sole key animator.
