A different side of Kim Woo-bin is set to be revealed in the upcoming Netflix K-movie Officer Black Belt. After his role as the heroic delivery driver 5-8 in Black Knight, he will next be seen as martial arts officer Lee Jung-do, a character who holds nine black belts in taekwondo, judo, and kendo. Performing intense action scenes is challenging enough for the actor-model. So, the fan-favorite K-drama star shared how he prepared for his role as a tactical defense officer in a new inside-look video.

You can watch Woo-bin’s interview for Officer Black Belt below:

In Officer Black Belt’s inside look video with Woo-bin, the 35-year-old star talked about his character, an ordinary guy whose only priority is to have fun. However, his life starts to change after he helps a martial arts officer who a criminal attacks. After displaying his great fighting skills, he becomes a defensive tactics officer himself.

Woo-bin revealed that it was the first time he learned that there was a martial arts officer job. He then went on to describe that this work entailed collaborating with a probation officer. In the film, he did it with Kim Sung-kyun and they monitored electronic tags worn by felons to avoid further crimes from happening in their country.

The two work for the Ministry of Justice and catch criminals together. But to be a martial arts officer, he needs to have at least a third dan (rank) in martial arts.

“It’s a refreshing and satisfying action movie,” he said. “I put a lot of effort into learning martial arts.”

Woo-bin learned taekwondo, judo, and kendo all at the same time. To effectively play his role and give justice to Jung-do’s character, he thought very hard about how he could showcase his character's exceptional martial arts talents.

“Please get ready to see Kim Sun-min and Lee Jung-do coming together to protect citizens’ safety with a new kind of teamwork,” he invited viewers to watch Officer Black Belt. “See you on Netflix on September 13.”
