Uprising (formerly titled War and Revolt), the upcoming South Korean historical war drama directed by Kim Sang-man and written by Shin-chul, is coming to Netflix on October 11, just over a week after it makes its world premiere at the Busan International Film Festival on October 2, 2024. Today, Netflix has released a new trailer of the highly-anticipated film set in Korea’s Joseon Dynasty. Its story is about two friends who grew up together — but find themselves in the opposing sides of a war.
Uprising attracted significant attention due to the involvement of producer Park Chan-wook (Decision to Leave, The Handmaiden, Old Boy). The cast of the film includes Gang Dong-won, Park Jeong-min, Cha Seung-won, Jin Sun-kyu, Kim Shin-rock, and Jung Sung-il. Filming for Uprising reportedly started in June 2023 and ended by early November 2023. The film features an all-star cast, and it's looking to be one of Netflix’s most ambitious projects.
The first poster for Uprising features an intense stare-deown Jong-ryeo (played by Park Jeong-min) and Cheon-yeong (Kang Dong-won), each wielding swords and dressed in contrasting red and blue outfits that symbolize their divergent paths. As the trailer revealed, there will be a fierce clash between the two leads, and it would be exciting to see how they will navigate their fates amidst the turmoil.
