Dark Horse Comics has unveiled Star Wars: Tales From the Nightlands, a chilling three-part miniseries set to debut on September 3, 2025, just in time for Halloween. Written by acclaimed author Cavan Scott, known for his work on Tales From Vader’s Castle, this series promises to plunge iconic Star Wars characters into nightmarish encounters with a terrifying new entity: the Nightlander.

What is Star Wars: Tales From the Nightlands about?

As Fangoria first revealed, Star Wars: Tales From the Nightlands spans the entire Skywalker Saga, delivering three distinct stories set in the prequel, original, and sequel trilogies. Each issue introduces beloved heroes to the horrors of the Nightlands, a spectral realm whispered about on the planet Ryloth, where Twi’lek lore describes it as the resting place of spirits after death. The Nightlander, described as the Star Wars universe’s boogeyman, seeks to possess a powerful host and sow despair across the galaxy. Designed by Star Wars legend Iain McCaig, who helped craft Darth Maul’s iconic look, the Nightlander is both beautiful and terrifying, making her a formidable foe.

In Star Wars: Tales From the Nightlands #1, young Padawan Anakin Skywalker and Master Obi-Wan Kenobi visit Ryloth, where Anakin attempts to summon the ghost of Qui-Gon Jinn. Instead, he unwittingly contacts the Nightlands, unleashing a dark presence. Star Wars: Tales From the Nightlands #2 sees Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa confronting this horror, while Star Wars: Tales From the Nightlands #3 pits Rey and Finn against a malevolent force unlike any they’ve faced before.

A Creative Team of Horror Masters

Cavan Scott, no stranger to Star Wars horror, continues his legacy of spooky storytelling following Tales From Vader’s Castle, Tales From the Rancor Pit, and Tales From the Death Star. “This time, we’re telling three chilling tales that span the entire Skywalker Saga—prequels, original trilogy, and sequels,” Scott said. “It’s been an absolute joy to revisit Obi-Wan, Anakin, Luke, Leia, Rey, and Finn… and throw them headfirst into living nightmares.”

The series boasts a talented roster of artists: Soo Lee (Star Wars: Tales From the Nightlands #1), Vincenzo Riccardi (Star Wars: Tales From the Nightlands #2), and Robert Hack (Star Wars: Tales From the Nightlands #3). Francesco Francavilla provides haunting cover art, while Comicraft handles lettering. Artist Soo Lee expressed excitement about depicting Obi-Wan and Anakin facing “terrifying cosmic beings,” calling it a dream project for her storytelling style.

Lucasfilm Publishing Creative Director Michael Siglain praised the collaboration, noting, “Dark Horse has a long tradition of publishing some of the best scary stories in comics. With Cavan Scott and this incredible team of artists, Star Wars: Tales From the Nightlands delivers a thrilling Halloween treat for Star Wars and horror fans alike.”

This miniseries marks Scott’s fourth venture into Star Wars horror, building on the success of his previous "Tales" series. Tales From Vader’s Castle set the stage in 2018, followed by Tales From the Rancor Pit in 2022 and Tales From the Death Star. The introduction of the Nightlander, with McCaig’s design expertise, adds a fresh and fearsome antagonist to the Star Wars mythos, poised to haunt readers across generations.
