May 5 served as Monkey D. Luffy’s birthday, coinciding with Children’s Day in Japan. To mark this special occasion, Netflix released a video featuring the live-action adaptation series’ lead star, Iñaki Godoy. However, aside from celebrating the great pirates’ special day, it also hinted at the introduction of Mr. 3 into live-action.
You can watch the video below:
Netflix’s official One Piece X (formerly Twitter) page shared a clip of Godoy carrying a cake to celebrate Luffy’s birthday. The actor then delivered a speech to thank the Straw Hat pirate for everything he had done for him and many others around the world.
“You make us happy,” he said. “You inspire us to follow our dreams and you’re just the coolest pirate captain ever.”
Godoy expressed his gratitude to be a part of Luffy’s journey by playing his role in Netflix’s live-action series. Later, he lit up and blew the candle. But before the video ended, it focused on the candle that featured a familiar “3” wick, which resembled Mr. 3’s top knot. The Imperfects star’s eyes also said it all, especially when he eyed the candle and the camera again.

Who is Mr. 3 in One Piece?
“Loan Shark” Galdino, aka Mr. 3, is Baroque Works’ former officer agent, working alongside his partner, Miss Goldenweek. He could be easily recognized due to his huge “3” top knot. He was the main villain of the Little Garden Arc, which was part of the Arabasta Saga.
Mr. 3 was also one of the central characters from Miss Goldenweek’s Operation: Meet Baroque Works, which was set between the events of Arabasta Arc and Impel Down Arc. Though a villain, he became one of Luffy’s main allies during the Impel Down Arc and Marineford Arc. However, he became a Buggy and Alvida Alliance member when the war ended.
How will Mr. 3 be introduced in Netflix’s One Piece Season 2?
In the manga and anime, Mr. 3 was introduced during the Arabasta Saga in Little Garden. Netflix’s One Piece Season 2 is expected to adapt the said saga, and the Baroque Works agency is a huge part of the storyline. So, with Mr. 3’s connection to these two, he may be one of the new characters introduced in the live-action series.
Arabasta Saga is also referred to as the Baroque Works Saga. Here, Luffy and his fellow Straw Hats will set sail to Whisky Peak and be targeted by the criminal organization Baroque Works, which Mr. 3 is part of. This organization was founded to destabilize the nation in the name of the Warlord Crocodile.
With this new tease, it looks like Netflix will soon drop new updates for One Piece Season 2. With the appearance of Smoker, which was seen in the first season’s end-credits scene, and Tony Tony Chopper, who Eiichiro Oda confirmed to appear in the second season, more characters will be coming Luffy and the Straw Hats’ way.
One Piece Season 1 is available to stream on Netflix, while Season 2 has no official release date yet.
