Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are back! But this time, they won’t be exploring Westeros but from China’s 1960s Cultural Revolution to the present-day Oxford and the United Nations in the new Netflix series 3 Body Problem. And to give fans a glimpse of its epic story, the streamer has dropped its official trailer featuring a strange sci-fi drama.
The 3 Body Problem preview begins with Benedict Wong, who plays Da Shi, an intelligence officer. After seeing 30 dead scientists in the past month, he sees a weird countdown on the wall written by blood. The scene then shifts to Eiza Gonazalez’s Auggie Salazar, an Oxford Five member, aboard a plane while seeing visions of the numbers, wondering if anyone has already seen it. As the enigmatic music begins to play, the investigation into the deaths of the scientists begins.
Game of Thrones actor Liam Cunningham, portraying Wade, the world’s most elite intelligence operation leader, appears, revealing that the culprits are going after their best and brightest people. “Whatever it is, it’s watching and listening,” he says. More deaths are revealed from there, and strange things begin to happen, from a flock of birds flying to the cosmic being visible in the city to more chaos affecting everyone. As Wade wears a metallic headpiece, a different world is revealed.

You can read the synopsis below:
The new Netflix series is based on the novel of the same name by Liu Cixin, created by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss alongside Alexander Woo (True Blood, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks). According to its executive producer, Gao Xiaosong, the show was over budget, with Netflix spending about $200 million to produce its eight episodes. Its per-episode average budget is $25 million, making it the most expensive Netflix production to date and the second most expensive TV series following The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
3 Body Problem is scheduled for release on Netflix on March 21. With the book’s success, let’s see if the TV adaptation will give justice to Cixin’s great work.
