Netflix has added another big anime adaptation to its growing arsenal with Pluto, based on the critically acclaimed and commercially successful manga by Naoki Urasawa. Today, the streamer has dropped the final trailer for the series, giving a glimpse into its emotional storyline by showing the extent of human hate. The service also releases a key visual showing the titular character trying to protect his sister.

Written and illustrated by Urasawa, Pluto is based on Astro Boy’s The Greatest Robot on Earth arc by Osama Tezuka. Viz Media released and licensed the series in North America under Pluto: Urazawa x Tezuka. It was then adapted into anime, produced by Genco and Tezuka Productions, animated by Studio M2, and is set to premiere on Netflix.

The trailer begins with the introduction of the young boy Atom, a robot made to replace a dead son. The next scene shows a dystopia filled with dead robots everywhere. The preview then warns that "robots must not become any more human" as a montage of intense turn of events begins.

"Yes, I love you, Dad," Atom says. With the young boy’s confession, his father believes Tabio hates him, making the child sad. As it asks why robots shed tears, Atom suggests beginning "the creation of the new world," which will see the birth of the Greatest Robot on Earth.

Alternatively, Pluto’s key visual features Atom trying to protect Uran from a monstrous robot named Pluto. But aside from his sister, Atom may also do his best to save everyone from the human hatred that may put the world at risk of destruction.

What is Pluto about?

Helmed by Masao Maruyama, part of the original Astro Boy production and Studio MAPPA founder, Pluto is set in a neo-futuristic world where humans and robots exist. However, Europol detective Gesicht sees the destruction of numerous powerful robots, making him believe that the culprit is targeting the most highly developed robots in the world.

This puts him in danger, but things worsen when even humans involved in the robot law get killed individually. From here, Gesicht meets Atom, with whom he’s about to uncover a sinister plan that may also mean the end of the world as they know it.

You can read the synopsis below:

In a world where humans and robots coexist, Europol detective Gesicht is on the case when a string of powerful robots are destroyed, leading him to believe that the culprit is targeting the most advanced robots in the world – including himself. But things take a shocking turn when key humans involved in robot law start getting killed off one by one, and there's no clear sign of a perpetrator at the murder scenes. As Gesicht investigates, he meets the highly advanced robot Atom, whose emotions and AI leave him questioning his own identity. Together, they uncover a dark plot that could spell the end of the world as they know it. But with the clock ticking, can they stop the greatest evil in history before it's too late?
