Netflix’s One Piece was released on the platform nearly two weeks ago and instantly became a huge hit among fans. The popular anime decided to come out as the first-ever live-action series in August and managed to captivate fans from the very start. So far, Netflix’s One Piece is the top anime adaptation that Hollywood has ever tackled, with its Netflix domination being proof of that very fact.
However, now that the fans are done binge-watching the show, they’re busy wondering when they might see a Season 2. Currently, there hasn’t been any official news regarding a Season 2 of One Piece even taking place, but there is plenty of evidence proving that the Netflix show might just be renewed for a second season. Marty Adelstein, the CEO of Tomorrow Studios and one of Netflix’s top producers, shares that the team might know about season 2 very soon.
In an interview with Variety, the producer stated, "In our calls post-launch, we have been told we have exceeded expectations which is also fantastic. I suspect we'll hear from Netflix in the next week or two weeks. There seems to be a big impetus to keep this going and to come up with a long-term strategy. So we're just waiting for that."
This statement also pairs well with the one Adelstein and the president of Tomorrow Studios, Becky Clements, shared last week regarding season two of Netflix’s One Piece. The former also shared that the scripts were already being banked for a second season. On the basis of the ongoing strikes in Hollywood, the live-action adaptation might get turned around once negotiations are made with both the WGA and the SAG-AFTRA. Clements stated, "Realistically, hopefully, [season two is] a year away if we move very quickly, and that is a possibility. Somewhere between a year and 18 months, we could be ready for air."
What to expect from Netflix's One Piece Season 2?
One Piece Season 1 tackled plenty of material from the manga, covering nearly 100 chapters in only eight episodes. Taking that into account, there's a high chance that Season 2 might adapt the story's next arc till Chapter 218. Luffy and the Straw Hat crew should get ready to face a storm of challenges, an island of giants, look for a doctor to be a part of the crew, and also battle a criminal organization of bounty hunters that are threatening the desert nation of Arabasta. Considered to be among some of the best arcs in One Piece, this arc is famous for being the first to set the course of the journey moving forward.
People who haven’t yet gotten a chance to catch up on One Piece can quickly head over to Netflix to see what the entire series is about. The whole project was overseen by the creator of the One Piece series Eiichiro Oda from the beginning to the very end. While we wait for some confirmation about the second season of Netflix’s One Piece, you can also go ahead and watch the original anime on both Crunchyroll and Hulu.
