Netflix has just dropped another much-talked-about K-drama, Mask Girl. But compared to the usual rom-com and love story Korean content, this one is different, with its tale of revenge, beauty standards, and several real-life instances. As the new series is now gaining traction, will there be a second season?
Mask Girl is based on the Naver webtoon of the same name by Mae-mi and Hee-see, published between 2015 and 2018. Netflix released its TV adaptation of the series on Friday, August 18. By now, many may have binge-watched the show. And with the positive reception, many want to know if there’s any chance that Kim Mo-mi’s story will continue.
Will there be Mask Girl Season 2?
So far, Netflix has not announced if there will be Mask Girl Season 2. The streamer is yet to renew the series, given that it is barely a week since it hit the small screens.
The streaming giant usually orders a new season after over a month or more. In some cases, it only takes a week or two before a season renewal comes.
Compared to TV networks, Netflix doesn’t release rating figures. However, it is known to renew or cancel a show based on the viewership and the production cost.
Is Mask Girl’s first season a success?
So far, the first season of Mask Girl has received a 7.5 rating out of 10 on IMDb, with its fourth episode, Kim Chun-ae, getting the highest rating of 8.3. Alternatively, My Drama List gives it a 7.8 rating.
It’s also receiving positive reviews for its right depiction of societal issues, especially when it comes to beauty standards and how it can badly affect someone’s life. Though these can be good indications that Mask Girl Season 2 can happen, no one really knows until Netflix announces a season renewal.
What will be the possible plotline of Mask Girl Season 2?

Mask Girl Season 1 has properly concluded Kim Mo-mi’s story. However, it doesn’t confirm if the lead character is really dead after being shot by Joo Oh-nam’s mother, as her lifeless body isn’t seen.
But if a second season will be in the works, it can instead follow the story of Kim Mo-mi’s daughter, Kim Mi-mo. It may also feature a different tale to give it another direction, as the main cast of the series is all dead.
That said, Mask Girl Season 2 may not see the light of day. But who knows, Netflix may give it a go if it becomes so big.
