Netflix has added a new K-drama series to its growing roster of original shows. Titled Mask Girl, this new mystery-thriller will see an ordinary office worker who changes her identity at night as a famous masked model online. But things will go a downward spiral as she becomes Prisoner No. 1047, hinting at its intriguing story.
Mask Girl is based on the webtoon of the same name by Mae-Mi. Originally, it was listed as 18+, meaning it is only meant to be seen by adults. However, it remains to be seen if Netflix will make it suitable for the younger audience. So, here is everything you need to know about this new K-drama adaptation.

What is Mask Girl about?
Mask Girl follows the story of Kim Mo-mi, who is insecure about her looks but is proud of her perfect physique. After work, she puts on a mask and streams a live broadcast of herself, making her known as the Mask Girl, but something sinister is hiding behind this mask. After opting for plastic surgery and turning into a stunningly beautiful woman, her alter ego becomes a murderer.

Who produced and directed Mask Girl?
Kim Yong-hoon, who is also behind the crime-thriller movie Beasts Clawing at Straws, directs and writes the K-drama adaptation of Mask Girl. Alternatively, it is produced by the House of Impression and BONFACTORY.

Mask Girl Trailer
Netflix recently dropped a new trailer for Mask Girl, revealing the characters’ three names, three lives, and three murders. It starts with Mo-mi declaring her desire to get out of prison. From there, it reveals a major turn of events in her life, from being an office worker to becoming a cam model to ending up as Prisoner No. 1047.

Mask Girl Cast
Go Hyun-jung, Nana, and a yet-to-be-revealed actress will play the role of Mo-Mi. Each star will portray the different phases in Mo-mi’s life until she becomes a murderer nobody expected. She will be joined by Ahn Jae Hong as Ju Oh-nam, a male office worker whose only pleasure is to watch live stream broadcasts on the internet after work.
Next is Yeom Hye Ran as Kim Kyung-ja, a mother who has been looking for her missing son. Other stars joining the show are Jolene Kim as the correction officer, Annie Sway as Ye-chun’s mother, Anzu Lawson as Cecille, and Daniel Choi and Lee Jun-young in unknown roles.
According to Netflix, director Yong-hoon described these characters as “injured, marginalized individuals, each tangled in the web of a murder mystery.” That said, Mask Girl is seen to give mystery thrillers a whole new meaning.

Mask Girl Release Date and Time
Netflix will officially release Mask Girl on August 18. As the streamer usually drops its new releases at 12 AM PT/ 3 AM EST, it could also be seen at 12 AM PDT and 3 AM EDT.
