Netflix has a new movie offering that apocalyptic thriller fans will love. But aside from its great story, Leave the World Behind boasts serious star power. And to give a glimpse of what’s to come, the streamer has dropped the film’s official trailer and provides a first look at its all-star cast, led by Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke, Mahershala Ali, and Kevin Bacon.
Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Rumaan Alam, the film doesn’t only have the biggest stars in tow. It’s also executive produced by the former first couple, Barack and Michelle Obama, along with Alam himself, Tonia Davis, Daniel M. Stillman, and Nick Krishnamurthy. It’s also directed by Sam Esmail, who’s behind the hit TV series Mr. Robot.
The Leave the World Behind trailer begins with G.H. (Ali) and his daughter Ruth (Myha’la) knocking on Clay (Hawke) and Amanda’s (Roberts) door. As surprised neighbors, Amanda couldn’t help but ask G.H. the reason for the visit.
G.H. then explained his line of work, understanding the “patterns that govern the world” that could help them see the future. He warned them that something was coming when the news suddenly announced the cyberattacks happening across the country. From there, something weird started happening, from the rains that looked like blood to the surge of water crashing into their house.
