August has yet to come to an end, but Netflix is already gearing up for its next lineup of Korean content for September 2024. After seeing Kim Woo-bin as the legendary deliveryman 5-8 in the 2023 K-drama Black Knight, fans are about to see a different side of the South Korean actor in the upcoming Netflix K-movie Officer Black Belt. While Woo-bin has often been the heartthrob in his much-loved series, like The Heirs, the teaser for Officer Black Belt shows the 35-year-old star as a funny martial artist officer.

You can watch the teaser for Officer Black Belt below:

The first preview for Officer Black Belt shows Woo-bin demonstrating his martial arts prowess. Later, he boasts about having third-degree black belts in taekwondo, judo, and kendo, adding up to a ninth-degree black belt while seemingly applying for a new job. Kim Sung-kyun then reveals that 5,000 criminals under probation wear electronic ankle tags to monitor their actions. As Kim Sung-kyun acknowledges Woo-bin’s exceptional fighting abilities, he asks him for a favor, which Woo-bin initially declines.

Of course, Woo-bin only quips and changes his answer, asking Sung-kyun if the job will be fun, which is of utmost importance to him. Sung-kyun then explains what Woo-bin will do as a new martial arts officer. The enforcers have been monitoring the ex-cons 24/7 using the GPS on their tags to maintain order. As Woo-bin fights off the criminals individually to ensure the civilians’ safety, one asks him who he is.

“I’m a martial… a martial arts officer,” he says while stuttering.

Netflix has also released the official poster for Officer Black Belt. It features Woo-bin giving a charming smile as he throws a powerful punch. The poster includes shattered glass fragments, seemingly broken by his punch, each displaying a map and crime location markers. It also comes with the tagline, “Strike crime before it strikes the world.”

What is Officer Black Belt about?

Officer Black Belt will see Woo-bin as an ordinary guy who delivers food for his father’s chicken restaurant. He enjoys playing video games with his friends at internet cafes and hanging out with them for drinks. However, despite being a regular guy, he possesses incredible fighting abilities, holding black belts in taekwondo, judo, and kendo. While it's common for him to help people in trouble, his life begins to change after he saves a martial arts officer from being attacked by a probationer wearing an ankle monitor. With his skills, he steps in for the injured officer and teams up with Sung-kyun to stop the crimes in their country.

You can read the Officer Black Belt synopsis below:

Officer Black Belt follows the story of Lee Jung-do, who has a total of nine  dans  (meaning ranks) in taekwondo, kendo, and judo, as he works as a martial arts officer together with probation officer Kim Seon-min to prevent crimes by keeping a close, around-the-clock watch on individuals wearing electronic anklets.

Written and directed by Jason Kim (Midnight Runners, Bloodhounds), the film stars Woo-bin as Lee Jung-do and Sung-kyun as Kim Sun-min. Lee Hae-young and Kim Yool-hoo are also in supporting roles. It’s produced by Climax Studio and Seven O Six and distributed by Netflix.
