Netflix has officially announced that K-pop superstar Jisso, of the popular group BLACKPINK, has signed on to star in an upcoming new K-drama with popular singer-turned actor Seo In-guk. In the new romantic comedy drama, Boyfriend on Demand (working title), Jisoo plays Seo Mi-rae, an overworked webtoon producer Mi-rae who "longs for a second chance at love" and seeks escape in a subscription-based virtual reality dating program “where she meets the boyfriends of her dreams.”
According to Netflix's press release, Mi-rae receives a 'Monthly Boyfriend' device by chance, allowing her to enter a virtual world, where she encounters unrealistically perfect boyfriends, giving her an exhilarating dopamine rush as she rediscovers dormant desires for romance.
Seo In-guk (Doom at Your Service, Café Minamdang) portrays Park Kyeong-nam, a rival webtoon producer and Mi-rae's colleague. He's skilled at his work, but Mi-rae doesn't feel comfortable around him. Despite his cold and self-centered demeanor, he's someone with surprising secrets, and is expected to stir Mi-rae's emotions.
Netflix said that Boyfriend on Demand will “skillfully balance romance and comedy,” bringing “heart-fluttering moments and laughter.” Kim Jung-sik (Work Later, Drink Now, No Gain No Love) is directing the upcoming drama, and Netflix said that he will “skillfully balance romance and comedy" in Boyfriend on Demand. Fans will have to wait for Netflix to announce an official release date.
Boyfriend on Demand is the latest K-drama to Netflix's long content slate of Korean titles coming in 2025, which includes 22 scripted shows, eight original films and eight reality shows. The slate also highlights the third and final season of Squid Game (releasing on June 27), the second season of Culinary Class Wars, a new season of the brain survival show The Devil's Plan, and Physical 100: Asia, which is expected to feature Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao. Netlfix also recently renewed the hit dating show Single's Inferno for a fifth season, but a release date hasn't been announced yet.
