Before the premiere of the upcoming Gundam TV series Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX in the near future, a prologue theatrical version using re-edited versions will be released in theaters in Japan on January 17, 2027, and it's called titled Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-. The official website of the mecha anime has released a brand new trailer and key visual for the advance theatrical edition. Watch the new trailer below:
The anime is a co-production project by Studio Khara and Sunrise, with director Kazuya Tsurumaki (Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time), and Yoji Enokido and Hideaki Anno in charge of the script. This is the first collaboration between Studio Khara, best known for the Evangelion series, and Sunrise, the animation studio of the Gundam franchise.
The official X account of the anime has also confirmed that the prologue film will screen in select IMAX theaters in Japan, which marks the first time in the history of the Gundam anime franchise. The tagline attached to the new key visual reads: "khara x Sunrise. Dreams intersect."

Tomoyo Kurosawa as Amate Yuzuriha (MACHU)
Yui Ishikawa as Nyaan
Shimba Tsuchiya as Shuji Ito

Amate Yuzuriha is a high-school student living peacefully in a space colony floating in outer space. When she meets a war refugee named Nyaan, Amate is drawn into the illegal mobile suit dueling sport known as Clan Battle. Under the entry name "Machu," she throws herself into fierce battle day after day, piloting the GQuuuuuuX. Then an unidentified Gundam mobile suit pursued by both the space force and the police appears before her, along with its pilot, a boy named Shuji. Now their world is about to enter a new era.
