Film distributor GKIDS has announced that it has acquired North American theatrical distribution rights to Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-, a prologue theatrical version using re-edited episodes of the upcoming Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX TV series. Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- is set to release in theaters in North America on February 28, 2025. The new mecha film was released in Japan on January 17, just a few weeks after the series was officially announced.
Studio Khara and Sunrise are co-producing the anime project, with director Kazuya Tsurumaki (Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time), and Yoji Enokido and Hideaki Anno handling the script. This is the first collaboration between Studio Khara, best known for the Evangelion series, and Sunrise, the animation studio of the Gundam franchise. It was previously-confirmed that Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-, will screen in IMAX theaters, which marks the first time in the history of the Gundam anime franchise.
