Another Japanese street racing story is about to hit the small screens. MF Ghost, the sequel to Initial D, is now preparing for its nearing big release next month. The anime has already excited fans by releasing a new trailer introducing its characters, voice actors, and the wildest cards viewers are about to see.

Based on the Japanese manga by Shuichi Shigeno, who’s also behind Initial D, MF Ghost anime was first announced in January 2022. Felix Film produces the new anime adaption, with Tomohito Naka at the helm. Kenichi Yamashita works on the series’ scripts, co-written with Akihiko Inari, Naoyuki Onda on character designs, and Akio Dobashi on music. Now, after over a year since its announcement, MG Ghost will soon be released.

The anime’s official website has dropped the fifth trailer for the upcoming anime, starting with the narration of Takumi Fujiwara, the main character of the original Initial D, to introduce MFG. From there, the new series lead, Kanata Katagiri, is presented, along with other characters like Ren Saionji, starting the race and Ogata and Shun Aiba talking before the game begins.

Of course, MF Ghost will never be complete without the high-powered cars, and the trailer gives a glimpse of the wildest vehicles in the race. Car enthusiasts will surely love to see the Porsche 718 Cayman S, the Lamborghini Huracan, the Ferrari 488 GTB, and the Alpine A110, among others. Now, the big question is, how can Katagiri’s Toyota 86GT compete with these luxurious cars?

What is MF Ghost about?

MF Ghost tells the story of MFG, a huge organization founded by Initial D’s Fujiwara, which holds street racing using combustion cars. A Japanese-British guy named Katagiri arrives with his old Toyota 86 car, but he manages to beat the top-tier vehicles, like Lamborghini, Ferrari, Lexus, and Porsche. However, being trained by the legendary racer Fujiwara makes this an easy feat. But despite it all, Katagiri only has one mission: to find his long-lost father.

You can read the synopsis below:

The series takes place sometime around the late 2020s to the early 2030s when self-driving electric cars have replaced internal combustion ones. However, in Japan, there is a large organization called MFG, founded by Ryosuke Takahashi (from the Initial D series), who does street racing with internal combustion cars. A new rookie, Kanata Rivington, who is competing with the pseudonym Kanata Katagiri, a 19-year-old Japanese-British young man, has shown up on the scene driving a Toyota 86 and beating European top-tier cars, such as the Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4, Ferrari 488 GTB, Lotus Exige, Alfa Romeo 4C, Lexus LC500 and Porsche 911 Carrera (991). Kanata has been trained by legendary downhill and rally racer Takumi Fujiwara (protagonist from the Initial D series) at the Royal Donington Racing School in the UK and is a Formula 4 world champion. He has only one motive: to find his long-lost father.
