Marvel Studios is working on a new movie, Thunderbolts, featuring a group of antiheroes who will eventually become superheroes to protect the world. One of the characters expected to appear in the film is Sentry, who is supposed to be played by Steven Yeun. But after The Walking Dead star backed out from the project due to production delays, the studio is reportedly eyeing Lewis Pullman to take on the role. However, despite being the alleged top choice, the Top Gun: Maverick star remains tight-lipped about it.
Pullman was asked when he would start filming for Thunderbolts in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet of the Film Independent Spirits Awards. However, instead of answering the question, the 31-year-old avoided talking about it.
“I am having fun in Santa Monica. You know, I'm just going wherever the wind takes me. Yeah,” he said.
In January, news emerged that Pullman was Marvel Studios’ top choice to be its next Sentry and was offered to play the role that Yeun left. Known online scooper Daniel Richtman even confirmed his involvement in the film. However, the actor and the production company have remained mum about it until today.
Who is Sentry in Thunderbolts?
Real name Robert Reynolds, Sentry is a complex and enigmatic figure in Thunderbolts. He used to be a troubled man dealing with anxiety, depression, and addiction when his life took a 360-degree turn when he chanced upon a secret laboratory. There, he ingested an experimental serum, which unlocked great powers within him, making him an extremely powerful superhero.
This makes him possess great abilities, like superhuman strength, speed, stamina, agility, and the power of flight that turn him into one of the most powerful beings on Earth. With his strength, he fights alongside the Avengers, New Avengers, Mighty Avengers, Secret Avengers, Defenders, Fantastic Four, and the X-Men against cosmic threats and supervillains.
What is Thunderbolts about?
Thunderbolts follows the story of a group of antiheroes composed of reformed supervillains. This team becomes superheroes after being introduced as super-powered individuals who will help protect the world after the Avengers are declared dead.
A sequel to Ant-Man and the Wasp, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Black Widow, and Captain America: Brave New World, it’s the 36th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the 15th movie of Marvel’s Phase Five. Though Sentry’s appearance and actor are yet to be confirmed, it will be led by Florence Pugh as Yelena Boleva, Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier, David Harbour as the Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as John Walker, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
Thunderbolts is scheduled to hit the theaters on May 2, 2025. Though Pullman neither confirmed nor denied his involvement in this project, his strong link to the film seemingly confirmed he would soon make his debut in the MCU.
