Spider-Man 2 has been out for some time now and has received a massive number of positive reviews and encouragement on the way the game's developers, Insomniac Games, executed it all. It shows our two beloved protagonists, Peter Parker and Miles Morales, going off against the two main antagonists, Kraven the Hunter and Venom.

This selection of villains for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has been well-received by players and is a worthy successor to the first game, which featured the popular Sinister Six. After such good villain executions in the first two Spider-Man games, fans are wondering what Insomniac Games will do for the third one.

Spider-Man Voice Actor Teases Potential Villians

Yuri Lowenthal, who has been dubbed by many fans of the Spider-Man PlayStation series as one of the best Spider-Men ever, has given us his opinion on what the villains of the third game could look like. During an interview with Collider, he appraised the villains of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, comparing them to DC’s Batman. He also avoided spoiling the game for newcomers, like a true gentleman.

It’s tough, and I certainly don’t wanna spoil things for people who are just getting started playing this game or who haven’t played it yet. I will just comment by saying that, second to maybe Batman or maybe on par with Batman , Spider-Man has the greatest rogues gallery villains.

Yuri talked about the inclusion of the major and well-known anti-hero Venom and questioned where the studio would go from here. Whether they will choose smaller villains for their next game? Or continue the trend of more popular ones.

By putting Venom in this game, which is certainly no spoiler at this point, but all 19 inches of Venom, it’s sort of taken out the villain that has dominated the spotlight for the last 25 years or something like that. So where do you go next? I mean, do you go to smaller, not as well-known villains and turn them into something else? Do you go way back to, like, Tarantula and be like, 'Okay, he’s not as goofy as you think if we told this story about him,' or, you know, Big Wheel? [Laughs]

The actor here jokingly mentions Big Wheel and whether or not he can be a major villain. In Marvel Comics, Big Wheel was an embezzling businessman named Jackson Weele, who got a weaponized Big Wheel from The Tinkerer.

Tarantula, also known as Anton Miguel Rodriquez, was another villain mentioned by Yuri. He became a mercenary who was expelled by the South American government for committing murder.

Who will be the main villain in Marvel’s Spider-Man 3?

From the ending moments of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, a handful of villains come to mind that might play the role of the next main villain in the game’s follow-up, following Venom, Sinister Six, Kraven the Hunter, and Doc Ock. The first person at the top of this list is Norman Osborn, who went crazy in his penthouse mansion after he saw his son Harry on a hospital bed while possibly being comatose.

Not only this, but the mayor also made a suspicious phone call ordering the person on the other end to “get the G-serum ready.” This can be an indication that Norman might turn into the Green Goblin. However, it's possible that Harry becomes the evil villain if his father ends up using the G-serum to save his son’s life.

Spider-Man 2’s ending also hints at the potential return of Otto Octavius, who was seen trapped in the Raft after Marvel’s Spider-Man as Norman orders him to reveal who the two web-slingers are. Otto claimed that he was writing “the final chapter” in his notebook, which might be a hint at his coming back from the verge of death to take his sweet revenge against Peter Parker.

Lastly, we have someone from the Venom storyline in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, known as the Flame, who used the alias "Cletus Kasady," which is quite popular among fans as Carnage. While this character disappeared after fighting Wraith and Spider-Man, he did escape with a variant of the Venom symbiote that might keep the story going in Marvel’s Spider-Man 3.

Considering that plenty of villains were introduced in the character rosters of the first two games, it looks like Insomniac Games has even more coming in the next game. It already seems like the developers have a trick or two up their sleeves and are ready to wreak havoc in the game with the villains in the next game.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is currently available to play exclusively on PlayStation 5.
