Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 continues the stories of Peter Parker and Miles Morales as they were left off in the previous games in the series. The sequel has a similar play time as the first game and features a bunch of villains that the two heroes have to fight off.
As you finish off the final battle and reach the end of the game’s story, there’s hope for seeing how the stories of some new characters who appeared in this game will go. It is unclear whether they’ll appear in an upcoming DLC or a completely new game in the Spider-Man trilogy from Insomniac Games.
Green Goblin
Once Miles Morales defeats Venom, also known as Harry Osborne, he somehow resuscitates him briefly with his bioelectric powers, after which Harry goes into a coma. Norman Osborne grows frustrated and upset and asks his assistants to prepare the G-Serum.
In the comic books, Norman’s the Green Goblin, and considering what the serum is called, it seems like Spider-Man’s oldest enemy is about to pay him a visit. Initially, the symbiote saved Harry’s life, so it isn’t clear if Norman plans on using it on his son or himself.
In Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movie, Norman was the Green Goblin, while in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Harry was the villain, so Spider-Man 2’s story can go either way. Moreover, Norman pays Otto Octavius, also known as Doctor Octopus, a visit, who first appears as Marvel’s Spider-Man’s antagonist.
Norman demands to know Spider-Man’s true identity, but the villain doesn’t reveal it and instead claims that he’s writing “the final chapter” in a small book that can be seen in his hands. This might be Insomniac’s way of hinting that Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 might be the end of its version of the Spider-Man universe.
Carnage
“The Flame” series is one of the many sidequests featured in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, in which Peter Parker helps out Wraith, aka Yuri Watanabe, while she continues investigating a cult known as The Flame. By the end of the missions, we discover that Cletus Cassidy is the cult leader famous as Carnage in the comics.
In the final mission, Parker is pinned on the floor by a huge vehicle while Cassidy steals a red symbiote. Before leaving Peter to die, his last words were, “And when the Crimson Hour rolls over this earth, it shall bring truth, judgment, and carnage.”
Wraith ends up saving the webslinger instead of instantly running after Cassidy, allowing the villain to escape and possibly terrorize the village. Later, Yuri claims that she’ll try hunting the villain down, but that might take years, teasing that Carnage might show up in the next Insomniac game.

Rio Morales informs Miles that she’s going to give dating a shot after his father passed away in Marvel’s Spider-Man. Later, she shares that she has been going out with someone she likes a lot, and by the end of the game, we finally find out who the mystery guy really is.
The man is called Albert Moon, who also introduces his daughter Cindy to both Miles and Rio. Cindy Moon is none other than the woman behind Silk, who was previously introduced to fans in 2014. During Spider-Man 2’s cutscene, players only get a peek at the back of Cindy’s head, so as of now, we aren’t quite sure what she looks like.
By the game’s end, we find out that Peter Parker has decided to retire from the fighting crime business, so there’s a high chance the Silk will team up with Miles Morales to protect New York City. Currently, we aren’t sure if Cindy has her own spider powers or if she’s getting them in the next game or the next DLC.
The Chameleon
One of the many side quests in Spider-Man 2 includes the “Unidentified Targets” series of missions. During these missions, players will enter the apartment of Dmitri Smerdyakov, who is the villain known as The Chameleon. We also then learn that he is the brother of Kraven The Hunter.
When you look around the apartment, players can find many of Chameleon’s hunting trophies, including one of Peter’s old masks. After some time, Dmitri’s apartment slowly starts getting filled with poison. Although Spider-Man manages to escape and swing away from the apartment, we can see a man watching him from afar. He also says, “Don’t worry, brother. I will do what you could not,” meaning that he could show up as a villain in the future.
Miguel O’Hara

One of the side quests for players in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 includes collecting 42 Spider-Bots throughout the map. Once you are done collecting all the bots, Ganke will give you a side quest called “The Message”, which requires you to head over to the financial district.
Here, a special event takes place where a bartender called Delilah talks to Spider-Man through a portal that is similar to those we saw in Spider-Man Across The Spiderverse movie. She was also supposed to be a part of this movie but was cut from it later.
She mentions Miguel while stealing away all the Spider-Bots from the player and says, “And if Miguel comes looking for these, tell him ‘finders keepers.’”. Here, she is referring to Miguel O’Hara, aka Spider-Man 2099, who was the antagonist in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse.
Spider-Man obviously has no clue who Miguel is, and when he asks Delilah about it, she laughs and closes the portal without answering. Unfortunately, due to the nature of this event, it most likely won’t lead to anything more in the future, but it is a cool one nonetheless.
Conclusion
Spider-Man 2 featured a lot of exciting cameos; however, it is unclear at the moment if any of these will continue their story in a future game. As fans, we can only wait a few years and see whether Insomniac Games will move forward with any of these characters or instead bring new ones. We certainly hope they decide to take this route!
