Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 director Bryan Intihar recently talked about the Sandman plothole and claimed that there wasn’t any particular reason for the villain showing up in both games. While we aren’t complaining about the villain’s appearance in the games, we would like to know more about what the developers were thinking before adding it, and Intihar gave us what we needed.

While talking to IGN’s Beyond! Podcast Intihar talked about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which also includes the Sandman plothole. If you remember, Marvel’s Spider-Man featured Peter Parker’s item collectibles, and in one of those bags, players discover a vial of sand. This was a clear reference to Spider-Man’s grainy and diabolical villain called Sandman.

However, now we know that the villain somehow ended up escaping the vial and is terrorizing the city in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. When asked for the explanation behind this reason, Intihar said, "He's out" suggesting that Sandman’s appearance in both games has no specific reason. Intihar says, "See, this is the stuff that keeps me up at night, when you guys talk about that I'm like 'Oh my God, I didn't think about that?! What are we going to do?!'"

Who is Sandman in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2?

In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, we discover that Peter Parker has faced Sandman multiple times early in his career of fighting crime as the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. With the help of his abilities, Flint Marko became a lethal bank robber and turned out to be a truly challenging opponent for Spider-Man, giving him one of the toughest fights he’s ever endured.

After Sandman’s attack at the F.E.A.S.T. shelter that was run by Peter’s Aunt May, the web-slinger trapped the villain in a small vial. Flint pleaded guilty in court to all the crimes he committed and was paroled sometime later. He came back into the picture once again and decided to go up against the Spider-Men in Spider-Man 2 as his first task after getting released.

Similar to the comics, Sandman has the ability to transform his body into a hardened form or an airy and soft form in a matter of seconds. He can accomplish this to such a point where the villain can easily bend the hardest of metals and smash through concrete walls. Sandman can also alter his shape and change his size at will, truly becoming a force to be reckoned with.

Right when you think the villain cannot get any cooler, he summons his minions out of the sand! This causes him to have an entire army at his beck and call and fight against anyone who proves to be a threat to him. However, alongside these strengths, Sandman also has a weakness, i.e., water. Once he comes in contact with it, it affects his physical composition, so now you know how to defeat him.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is currently available to play exclusively on PlayStation 5.
