After 19 years as the all-you-can-read home of Marvel's digital comics, Marvel Unlimited is being retired. Marvel will sunset the service this December and replace it with a brand-new Marvel Comics app built from the ground up by WEBTOON, launching November 16 with more than 35,000 titles and a two-tier subscription model.

Marvel announced the switch on its official site ahead of New York Comic Con, where attendees can preview a beta version of the new app at booth #2435 from October 8 through 11. The Marvel Comics app will carry Marvel's full digital library at launch — including Star Wars and 20th Century Studios titles like Alien, Predator, and Planet of the Apes — with plans to add more of Disney's portfolio, including Pixar and Disney Animation, down the line.

The biggest change for readers is speed. The Base tier costs $9.99 per month or $69.99 per year and keeps the old Marvel Unlimited rhythm, with new issues arriving three months after print. The new Ultimate tier costs $12.49 per month or $99.99 per year and shrinks that window to just 30 days after print — a major acceleration for subscribers used to waiting. Fans can pre-register now at marvel.webtoon.com and lock in a limited-time founding member price of $59.99 for the first year of Ultimate Annual.

For current Marvel Unlimited subscribers, the timeline is tight. Marvel stopped accepting new sign-ups on October 5. No new content will be added after December 7, and comics will no longer be readable in the app after that date — though members can still browse their libraries until December 21 to make sure everything transferred. The app itself will be removed and fully sunset on December 28. To keep their collections, subscribers must create a WEBTOON account and import their Marvel Unlimited library, including saved issues and reading progress, before December 7. All active subscriptions will receive an automated pro-rated refund for the unused remainder on or around November 16.

The new app is a genuine rebuild rather than a reskin. Developed by WEBTOON Entertainment for mobile and web, it adds a dynamic cover-scroll interface for browsing thousands of comics at a glance, personalized recommendations based on reading history, character and creator pages to follow favorite heroes and writers across storylines, and a Pull List feature that surfaces new issues the moment they drop. It supports both traditional page-based comics and vertical-scroll formats, with updated smart panels for phone reading.

"We know that there is a large audience of readers who are looking to experience comics digitally, and there is no richer library than Marvel Comics," said David Abdo, General Manager of Marvel Comics and Franchise. "We're excited to partner with WEBTOON, industry leaders in the space, to create a new app that can continue to grow and evolve with the way readers discover and experience comics." WEBTOON Entertainment president Yongsoo Kim called the app "a new chapter in helping fans connect with the stories they love."

The move ends one of the longest-running experiments in digital comics. Marvel Unlimited launched in late 2007, when the idea of an all-you-can-read comics subscription was still a novelty, and it became the default way for a generation of fans to catch up on decades of continuity. Handing that library to WEBTOON — the dominant platform in vertical-scroll webcomics — signals where Marvel thinks digital readership is headed.

NYCC attendees get the first look. The Marvel Comics app makes its public debut at the convention's booth #2435 from October 8 through 11, where fans can try the beta, learn about the service, and pre-register ahead of the November 16 launch. The first 2,000 fans to claim the founding member price on-site will also receive a limited-edition Marvel Comics print ID card, available only at the show.
