There is little doubt that people are already looking forward to the X-Men getting their big Marvel Cinematic Universe project in the future. But is it possible that Secret Invasion already teased the possible movie plot for a film that will introduce the mutants into the MCU? The fourth episode of the Disney+ series dropped a major hint that could easily be missed.

In Secret Invasion Episode 4, Nick Fury confronts his wife Varra after discovering that she has been working for Gravik and has been ordered to kill him. During the confrontation, the two sat at home and Varra revealed she had no intention of following Gravik's order.

The whole situation happens in their home and in one scene, we get a glimpse at a book written by Varra's human counterpart Priscilla Fury. The book Decoding the Superhuman Gene appears to be about finding the X-gene that causes mutants to develop superhuman abilities at a certain age.

Interestingly, the cover of the book even features a familiar "X" that is associated with the X-Men. So could this be a huge hint to how the MCU will introduce mutants?

For now, it's a loaded clue to the future but nothing has been officially announced. On the other hand, the MCU already addressed the existence of mutants by rewriting Kamala Khan's backstory and revealing she is a mutant in Miss Marvel. Perhaps this will be explored more when Kamala returns in The Marvels later this year.

Secret Invasion is now down to its final two episodes and Disney+ has released an action-packed trailer hyping up the future. In the teaser, Nick Fury finds himself going up against a Super Skrull who appears to have Hulked out. Will Fury survive this ordeal or will another Super Skrull come in to save him?

The fifth episode of Secret Invasion will premiere on Disney+ on July 19, 2023.
