The upcoming Fantastic Four movie will bring Marvel's First Family to the MCU for the very first time, and it will kickstart Marvel Phase 6. Of course, fans want to see Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch and The Thing join the Marvel Cinematic Universe and possibly appear in other upcoming MCU movies such as Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.
As many Marvel fans already know, the MCU's upcoming movie won't be the first time the team has been featured in live-action. The first Fantastic Four movie was released in 2005, and the 2015 reboot showed the origin stories for the superhero quartet. The 2005 movie also got a sequel titled Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, revealed at Comic-Con that the Fantastic Four movie is coming in 2025 as the first movie of Marvel Phase 6, but the studio hasn't shared much official information about the movie yet. However, you can check out the latest updates below, including the film's official release date, casting rumors, plot, and more.
Marvel's Fantastic Four Potential Release Date
After Marvel's release schedule had a shake-up, the new Fantastic Four movie is scheduled to release in theaters on May 5, 2025, pushing several months back from November 8, 2024, a release date that was originally announced Marvel Studios chief, Kevin Feige at San Diego Comic-Con.

Marvel Studios hasn't revealed the plot of the upcoming Fantastic Four film, but according to Kevin Feige, the movie won't be another origin story. The four members of the Fantastic Four originally acquired superpowers after being exposed to cosmic rays on a scientific mission to outer space, but it looks like this will not be portrayed again in the movie.
"A lot of people know this origin story," Feige told The Hollywood Reporter. "A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they've never seen before?"
Fantastic Four Cast
There is no official announcement for the casting of Marvel's upcoming Fantastic Four movie. Marvel hasn't confirmed if any of the previous actors will be reprising their roles in the movie. We will update this article as soon as the studio makes an official casting announcement. For now, we put together what's currently known about the film's lead characters: Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic), Sue Storm (Invisible Woman), Johnny Storm (Human Torch), and Ben Grimm (The Thing).
Who will play Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic in MCU's Fantastic Four?

Reed Richards, a.k.a Mister Fantastic, is one of the founding members of the Fantastic Four. He is a genius scientist, with expertise in alien biology, chemistry, engineering, and physics. The cosmic radiation disaster gifted him the power to stretch his limbs. So, who will play Mister Fantastic in MCU's Fantastic Four movie?
In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, John Krasinski played Reed Richards. He was a member of the Illuminati, group of superheroes tasked with making decisions that will affect the multiverse. He is seen with the classic blue uniform with the Fantastic Four logo on it as he was deemed "the smartest man alive". Sadly, he was killed by Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) within minutes of his introduction.
Fans can only speculate if there's a chance that Krasinski will return. He's clearly a fan-favorite, but this is the multiverse we're talking about. Multiverse of Madness director Sam Raimi indicated that the casting was meant only to fulfill fans' wishes. "It's so funny that [Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige] cast John because the fans had a dream of who the perfect Reed Richards would be," the director said in the movie's audio commentary, adding: "And because this is an alternate universe, I think Kevin said, 'Let's make that dream come true.'"
Krasinski isn't so sure he'll return either. "There aren't any discussions at all, the only discussion I had was actually in the second-to-last week of Jack Ryan," Krasinski said during a talk with TheWrap. "Kevin Feige called and said would you ever fly to L.A. and play in our sandbox for a day? I was honored to do it. I flew right from Budapest when we wrapped and went right to the Doctor Strange set. I'm a big fan of all those characters and that world, so to get to play in that sandbox for one day was a real thrill."
In the previous Fantastic Four movies, Mister Fantastic was played by two other actors: Ioan Gruffudd and Miles Teller.
Who will play Sue Storm/Invisible Woman in MCU's Fantastic Four?

Sue Storm is the Invisible Woman, one of the founding members of the Fantastic Four and the wife of Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic. After being exposed to cosmic radiation on their doomed mission, she's gifted the ability to become invisible as well as being able to manifest force fields. In previous Fantastic Four films, she's been portrayed by Jessica Alba and Kate Mara.
According to a report from Jeff Sneider of Above the Line, Vanessa Kirby (Mission: Impossible – Fallout) is being eyed to play Sue Storm / Invisible Woman. However, Marvel Studios hasn't officially confirmed this rumor.
Who will play Johnny Storm / Human Torch in MCU's Fantastic Four?

Johnny Storm is The Human Torch and Sue's younger brother who was also exposed to cosmic radiation. He's gifted with the power to turn his body into a fiery, plasma-like state. In the previous Fantastic Four movies, he was portrayed by Chris Evans and Michael B. Jordan.
It's very unlikely that Chris Evans will reprise his role as Johnny Storm after he played a major MCU role as Steve Rogers / Captain America. Jordan also played a new MCU character, when he portrayed Erik Killmonger in the Black Panther movie, so it's likely that there will be new casting for the role.
According to the same report from Above the Line, Stranger Things star Joseph Quinn is being eyed to play Johnny Storm / The Human Torch. However, this rumor is also not officially confirmed.
Who will play Benn Grimm / The Thing in MCU's Fantastic Four?

Benn Grimm is The Thing and the best friend of Reed Richards. He was an astronaut who joined Richards on the trip to outer space. Just like the rest of the Fantastic Four, he was exposed to the cosmic radiation in their doomed mission, but his body had the most extreme reaction, turning him into The Thing - an incredibly strong rock-like monster.
The Thing was played by Michael Chiklis and Jamie Bell in the previous Fantastic Four movies. Neither actor expects to reprise the role, but Chiklis shared some advice for his successor. During an interview with Screen Rant, he said they should "go CGI" with their costumes. "Wardrobe was something else, but it was still a pretty amazing experience," he added.
According to a recent rumor from John Rocha's YouTube video, The Thing will reportedly be played by an "overweight white guy", and that he hasn't been cast yet.
Other Cast Members

Ebon Moss-Bachrach has reportedly been cast in Matt Shakman’s Fantastic Four, according to the report from Jeff Sneider of Above the Line. We will update this article once Marvel Studios makes official casting announcement or confirm if any of these rumors are true.

Who will direct MCU's Fantastic Four movie?
It was officially announced at D23 that WandaVision director Matt Shakman will be directing Marvel's Fantastic Four movie.
When the movie was announced, Jon Watts was attached to direct the film. The director is behind the latest Spider-Man movie trilogy (Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home) for Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios. However, the filmmaker confirmed he's stepped back from helming another superhero film.
