Marvel recently confirmed that its popular Star Wars: Bounty Hunters series is coming to an end in January. In the January 2024 solicitations, Marvel included information for ordering Star Wars: Bounty Hunters #42. The issue's synopsis confirms that Star Wars: Bounty Hunters #42 is the series’ last one, which was also previously hinted at during the Star Wars publishing panel at the New York Comic Con.
Moreover, it was also revealed at NYCC that the writer of Bounty Hunters, Ethan Sacks will continue to be a part of the Star Wars comic world. Not only this, but he’s also currently in the bounty hunter era as he’s also the writer of the upcoming Star Wars: Jango Fett series. You can read the summary Marvel shared for Star Wars: Bounty Hunters #42 below:
What’s Star Wars: Bounty Hunters about?
Ethan Sacks is the writer of the whole Star Wars: Bounty Hunter series, with Paolo Villanelli being the mastermind behind the majority of the series artwork. Marvel released the series as part of its Star Wars line back in March 2020, which is set between the events of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
Bounty Hunters focuses on traditional bounty hunters present in the Star Wars universe, including Beilert Valance, Boba Fett, and Bossk. Since the series is a part of Marvel’s Star Wars line, its characters are involved in multiple events involving the main character from the Skywalker Saga. Some of those events are Dark Droids, War of the Bounty Hunters, and Crimson Reign. You can check out the Star Wars: Bounty Hunters poster below:

What’s in store for Marvel’s Star Wars comic books?
Marvel began telling Star Wars stories nearly four years ago, which share the events of what happened during the one year between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Although Star Wars: Bounty Hunters is ending, Marvel’s major ongoing Star Wars series, i.e., the Doctor Aphra series and the Darth Vader series are going to continue for some time.
The Star Wars publishing panel also claimed that Marvel might lean more toward the characters from the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Along with Sacks’ Jango Fett series, the franchise also announced a brand-new Star Wars: Mace Windu series. Marvel also plans on separately publishing an adaptation of Timothy Zahn’s Star Wars novel Thrawn: Alliances.
The novel shares the story of Thrawn teaming up with Anakin Skywalker and then with Darth Vader. Marvel also plans on releasing a whole new series of Star Wars: The High Republic comic books, so the future looks pretty good for Marvel’s Star Wars comics.
Star Wars: Bounty Hunters #42 will be available on January 17, whereas Sacks' Star Wars: Jango Fett series comes out in March.
