Marvel Studios started developing a WandaVision spinoff in October 2021, and it was formally announced the next month, centering on the story of Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness. Simply called Agatha, it underwent several subtitle changes, from Agatha: House of Harkness in November 2021 to Agatha: Coven of Chaos in July 2022 to Agatha: Darkhold Diaries in September 2023. However, it looks like Marvel is not yet done changing the title of the upcoming Disney+ series, and it has a new hilarious name: Agatha: The Lying Witch with Great Wardrobe.
In a now-deleted post on X, Marvel Studios shared a new title graphic that read Agatha: The Lying Witch with Great Wardrobe. However, it remains to be seen if the studio indeed changes the show’s title or makes fun of it, giving a nod to C.S. Lewis's classic fantasy novel The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, considering Agatha is a witch and she may feature a great wardrobe.
However, Marvel Studios deleted the post a few minutes after it went live without explaining why. The post itself didn’t even come with a caption that could confirm if the show’s title was once again changed. But as they say, nothing gets deleted on the internet, and a screencap of the said title card can be seen below:
Will Agatha: Darkhold Diaries undergo another title change?
As of this writing, Marvel Studios has yet to issue a statement or officially announce if Agatha: Darkhold Diaries will undergo another title change. One probable reason that it has deleted its post is it could be a mistake and it might not be meant to release today. Social media managers sometimes schedule their posts ahead of time to update their socials. Hence, this can be an error on their part.
However, knowing Marvel Studio is fond of piquing fans’ interest, it may be its way to start a conversation and create speculations. This way, it subtly promotes the show, making viewers more interested. The studio is probably aware that Agatha has undergone several title changes and know that people will react if it will have a comical title this time. But as X-Men '97 Season 1 is about to end this week, and Agathat: Darkhold Diaries is set to release this year, this move is seen as a marketing strategy.
What is Agatha: Darkhold Diaries about?
Agatha: Darkhold Diaries will see the return of Agatha Harkness after Scarlet Witch trapped her in Westview in WandaVision finale. With her magic taken away from her, Agatha will form unlikely allies to help her in her journey to regain her former powers.
You can read the synopsis below:
The series will also star Aubrey Plaza as Rio Vidal, Joe Locke as Billy Kaplan, Patti LuPone as Lilia Calderu, and Sasheer Zamata as Jennifer Kale. Ali Ahn will also join the cast as Alice, Debra Jo Rupp as Sharon Davis, and Miles Gutierrez-Riley as Hulkling.
So far, Agatha: Darkhold Diaries has no official release date yet, though it’s set to be out on Disney+ this year. Do you think the show will have a new title or Marvel Studios is only making fun of it? Though nothing is confirmed yet, it looks like the studio will start promoting the series.
