Magic: The Gathering’s Universes Beyond initiative, which brings iconic franchises into the world’s premier collectible card game, continues to expand its horizons. At MagicCon in Atlanta, Wizards of the Coast unveiled an exciting addition to this lineup: a Star Trek-themed set, set to launch in November 2026. This collaboration marks the first time the beloved science fiction franchise will merge with the strategic gameplay of Magic: The Gathering, promising a cosmic adventure for fans of both.

The announcement, made through the official Magic: The Gathering YouTube channel, positions the Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek set as the final major release of 2026.

According to Wizards of the Coast:

Our final Magic set of 2026 takes us to the final frontier. Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek invites players on a journey across the stars. This set will be warping into your hands in November 2026. Featuring characters, stories, and (of course) spaceships from the entire franchise, this set has something for every Star Trek fan. Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek will make the voyage to tabletop Magic and MTG Arena next year, and we’ll have more to share about this set in the future. Until then, prepare to boldly go where no Magic set has gone before.

This set will draw from the rich, 60-year history of Star Trek, encompassing characters, starships, and narratives from iconic series such as Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, and potentially newer entries like Starfleet Academy. The set will be playable both in physical tabletop form and on the digital platform MTG Arena, offering accessibility for a wide range of players.

A preview of the set’s artwork, showcased during the announcement, highlights its attention to Star Trek’s storied legacy. Five cards were revealed, featuring stunning illustrations of the Enterprise (by Dofresh), the Enterprise-D (by Raymond Swanland), Captain James T. Kirk (by Josh Newton), the Crystalline Entity (by David Alvarez), and Gowron (by Remi Jacquot).

These cards span key moments and characters from The Original Series and The Next Generation, with Gowron’s wide-eyed depiction capturing the Klingon’s intense presence. Wizards of the Coast emphasized that the set will include elements from across the Star Trek franchise, ensuring broad appeal for fans of all eras.

The Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek set joins other Universes Beyond collaborations, such as Avatar: The Last Airbender (set for release on November 21, 2025), Marvel Super Heroes (August 2026), and The Hobbit (August 2026). These follow earlier crossover sets like Marvel’s Spider-Man and Final Fantasy, which have already captivated players with their blend of familiar worlds and Magic’s strategic depth.

For those new to Magic: The Gathering, the game, which debuted in 1993, is a collectible card game that combines strategic deck-building with thematic storytelling. Unlike role-playing games such as Dungeons & Dragons, Magic focuses on head-to-head battles where players wield spells, creatures, and artifacts to outmaneuver opponents. Wizards of the Coast offers robust resources for beginners, including tutorials and guides available on their official website, giving players ample time to prepare for the Star Trek set’s release in November 2026.
