Biagio Cantone, a prominent Italian Magic: The Gathering competitor known for his expertise in Eternal formats, has been issued a full-year suspension from one of Europe’s leading independent tournament circuits. The player, who recently achieved an undefeated record en route to a Top 8 finish piloting a Sultai Living End deck at the 4Seasons Winter 2026 Modern event held in Bologna, will be barred from all 4Seasons-organized competitions throughout the 2026 calendar year. This decision follows a detailed review of match recordings by event judges and organizers, highlighting ongoing efforts to uphold competitive integrity in Magic: The Gathering.
The organizers at 4SeasonsTournaments released an official statement on their X account confirming the suspension and noting coordination with another prominent organizer.
“The beauty of playing Magic is playing Magic. For us, this means competing while respecting the rules, your opponent, and all other registered players. Together with the judges, we have reviewed the player's videos and we believe there is sufficient evidence to warrant all 2026 suspension for Biagio Cantone from our circuit. We also talk about this with Bøøse Team, and also they agree to implement the ban for all their events. This type of behaviour is not good for the game and Eternal community.”
The alleged cheat that prompted the ban involved library manipulation during a fetchland activation at the 4Seasons Winter 2026 tournament. Cantone cracked the fetchland, fanned his deck to locate Endurance, cut the cards above it, and shifted them to the bottom—positioning Endurance on top. He then retrieved his surveil land from the bottom, reassembled the deck, and shuffled while deliberately keeping the top card in place, using his thumb to hold it steady. He failed to offer the deck to his opponent for a shuffle or cut before immediately resolving the surveil effect, feigning deliberation over whether to keep or mill the top card. This served to verify Endurance remained on top while distracting the opponent from the procedural lapse, violating Magic: The Gathering Comprehensive Rules on thorough randomization after searches to prevent controlled draws and unfair advantages.
Cantone himself addressed the situation on X, stating: “After the events at @4Tournaments I’ve decided to step away from Magic. I’m truly sorry for what happened and for the message it sent. It was never my intention and i hope nothing like this happens again. Thanks for everything. I sincerely apologize and wish you all the best.”
This case adds to a pattern of accountability seen across competitive Magic: The Gathering. Over the years, numerous professional players have faced significant sanctions for similar integrity violations. High-profile bans have been issued at Pro Tours, Grand Prix tournaments, and regional circuits for actions such as marked sleeves, extra draws, or shuffle manipulation. Wizards of the Coast and independent organizers have enforced penalties from six months to multiple years, often with public statements emphasizing fair play. These precedents show that strong results do not protect players when evidence emerges through video or judging.
The 4Seasons circuit, hosting four major Bologna events annually, draws top European talent with large prize pools and professional judging. Coordination with the Bøøse Team broadens the ban, excluding Cantone from many Modern and Eternal tournaments in 2026. While Sultai Living End showcases the format’s strategic depth, the suspension reinforces that skill must align with strict rule adherence.
Magic: The Gathering relies on trust and sportsmanship to remain a premier competitive game. Modern tournaments, with widespread streaming and scrutiny, give organizers strong tools to enforce fairness. Cantone’s 2026 ban removes him from 4Seasons standings and affiliated events, sending a clear message against behavior that undermines the community. The focus stays on celebrating clean, innovative play that has defined the game for over three decades.
