Netflix has confirmed the production of its first Korean-language animated movie Lost in Starlight. And as early as now, the film looks promising, with the K-drama powerhouses Kim Tae-ri and Hong Kyung in the lead. Add to that its unique storyline, this one will be another must-see from the streamer.
Lost in Starlight follows the love story of the astronaut Nan-young and the musician Jay, transcending the universe. Despite the big difference in their chosen fields, they have managed to embark on a lengthy long-distance relationship. Lost in Starlight will introduce the astronaut Nan-young. Her dream has always been to explore the universe and go to Mars after her mom fails to return to Earth following her exploration on the Red Planet turns for the worse.

Who is in the cast of Lost in Starlight?
Fans will see the reunion of the Revenant stars Kim Tae-ri and Hong Kyung in Lost in Starlight. These two will play the roles of Nan-young and Jay.
Kim has already proven her great acting skills in The Spacesweepers, Twenty-Five Twenty-One, Alienoid, Mr. Sunshine, and more. Now, she tries to venture into the world of voice acting as the scientist Nan-young.
Alternatively, Hong Kyung is an up-and-comer star who has already proven his incredible talents in Weak Hero Class 1, Innocence, D.P., and A Distance Place, among others. But this time, he will lend his voice to Jay. Netflix has yet to announce the other cast members who will join the animated film.
Is there any production update about Lost in Starlight?
According to Netflix, Kim Tae-ri and Hong Kyung have already participated in the pre-recording and live-action processes of Lost in Starlight. This will help the two express their characters’ emotions in “richer and deeper ways.”
“Their interpretations of Nan-young and Jay thus deeply influenced the animation process and will make for a heartfelt and nuanced love story,” it says.
Who works behind Lost in Starlight?
Han Ji-won will direct and write Lost in Starlight. He has been known for his Korean animated debut short Kopi Luwak, followed by Clearer than You Think and Recipe to My Daughter. He will write the Netflix feature alongside Kang Hyun-joo. Alternatively, Climax Studio, which is behind the success of Netflix’s K-series Hellbound, D.P., and JUNG_E, will produce the film.
When will Netflix release Lost in Starlight?
So far, Netflix has not announced the release date for Lost in Starlight. But as the film is already in production, it may be safe to assume it will be streamed at the end of 2024 or early 2025.
K-drama lovers will surely wait for this new Netflix offering. The film may depict everything a long-distance relationship goes through, though this one is much worse, as it will try to bridge Earth and outer space.
