With the launch of Loki Season 2 on the horizon, the series’ executive producer, Kevin Wright, explains the way in which the character can have a major impact on Avengers: Secret Wars as the God of Mischief had some powerful connections to the first three phases of the MCU. Loki Season 1 hooked fans from the very start, with each episode bringing in more excitement and suspense for the viewers to unravel. Hopefully, the second season will be no less!

During an interview with Comicbook.com, Wright said that it would be “really cool” if the upcoming phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe could run through Loki and the choices he made, but in a different, unexpected way. You can read his entire response below:

"He's become that, and I remember [Michael] Waldron and I would talk a lot about in season one or just kind of acknowledge in season one, so much of the first two, three phases of Marvel storytelling do track back through Loki and the choices he made. Even Thanos coming to Earth is a ramification of Loki not doing his job in Avengers .”

Wright then addressed the potential connection of the God of Mischief to Avengers: Secret Wars by saying, “So all of that plays out, and as we were developing this, we were kind of like, 'Oh, in a broad sense, it would be really cool if the coming phases also ran through Loki and his choices, but in a different, unexpected way.'"

Even though the majority of the MCU does not have an impact on the storytelling in Loki Season 2, Wright wishes that the Marvel Cinematic Universe will someday embrace it. He said, "I mean, those are kind of like broad discussions, but we always are focusing in on just what we're doing and try not to get too bogged down by the bigger picture. If we tell our story really well, the rest of the MCU will embrace it.” Let’s just hope they actually do end up embracing it!

The executive producer was also asked whether his response is proof that Loki is going to have a major impact on the events of Secret Wars. To answer this, Wright said,  "Sylvie has a lot of responsibility in that, by the way, with what she's done with the Multiverse."

Will we see Loki in the future of the MCU?

As of right now, we cannot say for sure what the future of the MCU holds for our favorite God of Mischief. However, according to Kevin Wright, there are many more stories to be told about the character since the first two seasons "were always built to be two chapters of the same book." Here, he is recalling the fact that both seasons of Loki were supposed to come out together as one season before they were split into two different ones.

Wright also gives an insight on the upcoming season 2 of the show, saying that it’s made to be open-ended, opening up the possibility for a potential third season if Marvel is up to it. You can read his full response below:

"We certainly did not develop this season going, 'We have to tee up Season 3.' But I also think that where this show goes, there certainly can be many, many, many more stories told with Loki in the Loki world and in other worlds connected to Loki, the character."

The upcoming season of Loki shows the character getting displaced through time after Sylvie killed He Who Remains and opened up the multiverse. This allowed many versions of Kang, such as Kang The Conquerer and Victor Timely, to start the multiversal war just like He Who Remains said they would. It is now up to Loki to navigate this mess with Mobius and Sylvie and fix what they started… or potentially ruin it even more.
