A new K-drama is making its way on Netflix. But this one will be different compared to other Korean content fans used to see in the streamer as of late. With a theme of inspiring sports romance, viewers are about to see Jang Doong Yoon as a former wrestling prodigy, Kim Baek Doo, in Like Flowers in Sand, but everything will change when an old friend arrives. The service has now released a new trailer for the series, showing how the Oasis star struggles as a wrestler. You can watch the preview below:
The trailer starts with Jang Doong Yoon exclaiming he will retire if he doesn’t earn the title of Jangsa, a person with great physical strength, again. However, as many wonder what happened to the “almighty” Baek Doo, he’s seen being beaten in a fight. As Doong Yoon is a ssireum, a traditional Korean wrestling sports, prodigy who has yet to make it in the big scene, Lee Joo Myoung suddenly appears, showing the right move as she lifts and defeats a man in the ring.
“Aren’t you Du Sik?” Jang Doong Yoon asks, to which Lee Joo Myoung says, “That’s not me.” The next scene shows Joo Myoung wondering why Doong Yoon is already retired. He’s then seen practicing again but has self-doubts, thinking he still can’t make it despite giving his “absolute all.” As this irritates Joo Myoung, she slaps him on the forehead and tells him to do as he pleases. From there, Jang Doong Yoon confesses that he’s back because of her.

What is Like Flowers in Sand about?
Like Flowers in Sand follows the story of the youth struggling to succeed in their lives in the backdrop of the ssireum city of Geosan, a place famous for the said Korean sports. The drama centers on the ssireum prodigy Kim Baek Doo and his first love, Oh Yoo Kyung.

Kim Baek Doo is a ssireum player considering to retire from the sport. However, his life takes a turn when he reunites with his childhood friend Oh Yoo Kyung, who becomes the management team leader for his ssireum team. The team is on the verge of disbanding, but with the help of people like Min Hyun Wook and Joo Mi Ran, as well as the new coach Kwak Jin Soo and Baek Doo's best friend Jo Seok Hee, they work together to save the team.
Like Flowers in Sand will premiere on ENA on December 20, 2023, and will air every Wednesday and Thursday. It will also be available to stream on the same day on Netflix in select regions. This one is worth a try with the streaming giant’s growing K-drama list.
