The official website of LIAR GAME has announced that a Season 2 anime is currently in production. The confirmation arrives as the first television season reaches its end and frames the sequel as the next stage of the tournament that pulled Nao Kanzaki and Shinichi Akiyama into a contest built on deception. Character designer Kei Tsuchiya illustrated a celebratory image to mark the production decision.
The anime premiered in Japan on TV Tokyo and its affiliates on April 6 and then continued for six months without a mid-run hiatus. The second part of that first season began on July 7, keeping the weekly mind games on the air through the summer. Crunchyroll is streaming the series worldwide, excluding Japan and China, and hosted the world premiere screening of the first two episodes at this year's Sakura-Con event in Seattle on April 5, PDT.
Yuzo Sato serves as chief director for the anime at animation studio MADHOUSE, with direction by Asami Kawano. Series composition and scripts are handled by Tatsuhiko Urahata, who adapts the layered contests and shifting alliances for television. Character designs are by Kei Tsuchiya, and the music is composed by Yugo Kanno.
What is LIAR GAME about?
LIAR GAME began as a manga series written and illustrated by Shinobu Kaitani and serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump. The story ran from February 17, 2005, to January 22, 2015, and was later collected into nineteen tankobon volumes. Across that decade-long run, Kaitani built a reputation for psychological contests that test honesty, greed, and the fragile value of trust.

The first television season adapted that setup into a 26-episode run produced by MADHOUSE. Sato's role as chief director and Kawano's direction kept attention on faces, silence, and the slow reveal of a strategy rather than constant spectacle. Urahata's scripts had to preserve the logic of each game while still leaving room for character, because the series only works when viewers can follow both the trick and the cost of telling the truth.
Kaitani is also known for other strategy-driven stories, and LIAR GAME remains the work most closely tied to his name. Weekly Young Jump carried the chapters to a seinen readership that expected adult tension, moral gray areas, and long-form plotting. The magazine serialization gave the author room to escalate from intimate two-player matches to larger group contests in which alliances form, collapse, and form again.
Season 2 now has the task of continuing those later contests after the first anime season closed its opening stretch of games. No broadcast window for the sequel has been attached to the production announcement. Tsuchiya's celebratory illustration still frames the news as a continuation of the same character work that defined the first season's look.
The LIAR GAME manga previously inspired two live-action films, two live-action television series, and two live-action online series. The series also inspired a stage play in 2023.
