The intense fight between Defense Force Director General Isao Shinomiya and Kafka Hibino has stunned fans with great action and drama, perfectly setting the stage for the Kaiju No. 8 finale—that is, if the anime won’t have a second season. Kafka has tried his best to prove himself as a human, controlling himself to fight back, but his kaiju form has gotten the better of him. As this puts the protagonist in more danger, the preview for Kaiju No. 8 Episode 12, titled Hibino Kafka, shows the Defense Force members rushing to try to save Kafka’s life.

As released by the anime’s official website, the Kaiju No. 8 Episode 12 trailer begins with the fight between Kafka's monster form and Isao, who uses a suit and gauntlets made from the legendary Kaiju No. 2 that gives him immense monster-like powers. The next scene shows the Defense Force members Aoi Kaguragi and Haruichi Izumo worrying about what may happen to their fellow member.
Kafka enters a berserker-like state as he continuously faces Isao, while Reno Ichakawa and Iharu Furuhashi look helpless and can’t do anything for their friend. As a bloody Isao appears, unleashing all his power, his daughter, Kikoru Shinomiya, shouts at the top of her lungs to remind Kafka that he is a human. Mina Ashiro recalls the good times she had with Kafka when they were kids in a flashback scene. As Kafka is about to release a powerful punch against Isao, he reminds himself that he is still a member of the Defense Force.
Alternatively, the stills for Kaiju No. 8 Episode 12 show Reno inside the Defense Force facility’s gym, and though he’s sweating after a workout, he also looks sad, probably thinking of Kafka. Isao seems determined to put Kafka down and unleash the monster in him to prove that Kafka has already lost his human side. Kikoru appears surprised by how Kafka handles his fight against her father.
Haruichi looks at his phone while Aoi gazes in the distance, seemingly waiting for news about Kafka. Mina appears gloomy after bringing Kafka to Isao, not knowing what will happen next to her childhood friend. While the members of the 3rd Unit run around trying to save Kafka's life, the life-or-death battle between Kaiju No. 8 and Isao continues at Ariake Rinkai Base. Isao, who can freely control the power of the giant monster, displays his true strength, which was once hailed as the strongest in the history of the defense force, but Kaiju No. 8 loses control from Kafka and goes berserk, retaliating with an attack that doesn't care about physical damage. The merciless attack drives Isao into a corner.
The anime is based on Naoya Matsumoto’s manga of the same title, which started serialization in July 2020. As of April 2024, it had collected 12 tankobon volumes and had sold over 14 million copies worldwide by June 2024. Production I.G produced its anime adaptation, premiering in April 2024 and releasing 11 episodes.
