Kaiju No. 8 Anime’s New Character Visuals Unveiled

Kaiju No. 8's new character visuals see the Japan Anti-Kaiju Defense Force and the Monster No. 8 himself ready for action.

More and more details about the anime adaptation of Kaiju No. 8 are coming out recently. After revealing its three main characters, a second trailer, and its release year, its official website has given fans a glimpse into the character visuals of the Japan Anti-Kaiju Defense Force and the titular character Kaiju No. 8 himself, also known as Monster No. 8.

Based on the Japanese Naoya Matsumoto’s manga series of the same name, Kaiju No. 8 tells the story of Kafka, who wants to follow his former childhood friend, Mina, in the Defense Force. However, things change when he encounters a Kaiju and becomes one himself.

The series has been serialized for free on Shueisha's Shōnen Jump+ application and website since July 2020 and has 10 tankōbon volumes as of August 2023. With its popularity, many are now looking forward to seeing its anime version, which Production I.G and Studio Khara will handle.

The character visuals see the Japan Anti-Kaiju Defense Force, featuring Reno Ichikawa, Soshiro Hoshina, Mina Ashiro, Kikoru Shinomiya, and Hibino Kafka in action. It also shows Kaiju No. 8’s strong force as electricity flows through his body, hinting at his readiness to attack.

Kaiju No. 8 Trailer

On August 5, the anime’s official website dropped the second preview for Kaiju No. 8. Though it doesn’t reveal much, it seems to try to hype the series to get the attention of the international audience.

It starts by featuring a gigantic monster that emerges from the waters and tries to wreak havoc on the city. It then sees Kafka preparing himself to clean up the aftermath of the fight. Later, he makes a big transformation after a Kaiju enters his mouth. You can see the trailer below:

 

Kaiju No. 8 Cast

So far, the anime has just announced the three cast members who will lead the Kaiju No. 8 anime version. Katsuya Fukunishi will voice the character of Kafka/Kaiju No. 8, along with Wataru Kato as Reno and Asami Seto as Mina.

What is Kaiju No. 8 about?

Kaiju No. 8 follows Kafka, who almost gives up on his dream after finding himself working as a janitor instead of joining the Defense Force. However, his life changes after a small Kaiju flies into his mouth, giving him a chance to join the group with his newly acquired power and work alongside Mina. But to do this effectively, he must hide his dual identity.

Kafka hopes to one day keep his pact with his childhood friend Mina to join the Japan Defense Force and fight by her side. But while she’s out neutralizing kaiju as Third Division captain, Kafka is stuck cleaning up the aftermath of her battles. When a sudden rule change makes Kafka eligible for the Defense Force, he decides to try out for the squad once more. There’s just one problem—he’s made the Defense Force’s neutralization list under the code name Kaiju No. 8.

 

When will Kaiju No. 8 premiere?

Kaiju No. 8 will premiere sometime in 2024. According to its website, its release date will be decided in April of the said year.

As Kaiju No. 8 became the breakout manga of 2020, there are high expectations surrounding its anime adaptation. And based on its trailer, it may try to live up to the hype, and fans hope it will deliver.
