A global top star has planted himself beside the hospital bed of a woman he has supposedly never met, and he is not there to visit — he is quietly rehearsing his script. That is where Oh! My Guard puts Jung Yong-hwa's Uhm Tae-bong in its first episode, keeping watch over a sleeping Oh Hae-ra for reasons the premiere deliberately keeps hidden.
Herald Muse shared the stills ahead of the first broadcast, showing the global top star and the reclusive chaebol heiress sharing a frame for the first time in an unexpected setting. Tae-bong even directs a serious, melodrama-style gaze toward the sleeping Hae-ra, giving the quiet hospital scene a strangely romantic charge.
The drama's production team teased, "From the very first episode, Uhm Tae Bong and Oh Hae Ra, who have been living in completely different worlds, will become repeatedly entangled. In particular, the unbelievable circumstances that lead Uhm Tae Bong to meet Oh Hae Ra in a hospital room will steer their relationship in an unexpected direction."
They continued, "Starting today, we hope that you will join us in enjoying the drama while imagining, 'What would it be like to meet your favorite drama protagonist in real life and fall in love with them just like a drama?'"
Oh! My Guard is a romance drama built around that exact fantasy, following an A-list actor with a fatal flaw and a mysterious woman who believes she is Cha Hong-doo, the female lead of his hit drama. Their unpredictable love story begins when her belief collides with his real life, pulling two people from completely different worlds into the same orbit.
CNBLUE's Jung Yong-hwa plays Uhm Tae-bong, a master of romance dramas whose carefully guarded flaw is that he cannot film kiss scenes. He has held a strict no-kissing stance for years, and that refusal has paradoxically become part of the brand that keeps him on top.
Hong Seung-hee plays Oh Hae-ra, a chaebol heiress who lives alone in a grand mansion, largely outside her chairman father's attention. Her great joy is Prince's Bodyguard, the drama that made Tae-bong a star, and she spends her evenings imagining herself as its heroine before an accident turns that fantasy literal.
The supporting cast deepens the misunderstanding, with Lee Yi-kyung playing the real Han Jung-woo, a man who first saw Hae-ra during his childhood in England and has returned to South Korea to find her. Han Chae-ah plays So Hyun-joo, the former girlfriend of Tae-bong's late brother and, quietly, his own first love.
The series is written by Byun Sang-soon and co-directed by Yoon Jong-ho, who helmed Lovely Runner, and Lee Seung-hoon. A+E Global Media is handling investment and distribution for the production.
Oh! My Guard premieres on October 24 at 10:50 p.m. KST on Lifetime. The hospital room meeting opens the series, and the circumstances behind it are set to steer Tae-bong and Hae-ra's relationship in a direction neither of them expects.
