Loki Season 2 actor Jonathan Majors will face a trial on domestic abuse charges, as a New York judge recently rejected the motion to dismiss the case. The trial is scheduled to commence on November 29, 2023.

On Wednesday morning, Majors attended the hearing via Zoom due to being out of state (via Variety). His defence attorneys filed a motion during the hearing, requesting that "contested evidence" be kept under seal and not disclosed to the public, citing the "high profile" nature of the case and the allegations against the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania star. The defence argued that revealing sensitive information might limit Majors' right to a fair trial. The judge did not immediately rule on the motion, allowing reporters in the courtroom to submit opposing papers by November 6, 2023.

Following the judge's decision, a spokesperson for the Manhattan District Attorney's office expressed their anticipation of presenting their case at trial.

Before the recent hearing, the Manhattan District Attorney's office filed a 115-page response to Majors' motion to dismiss the case. The document alleges that Majors' legal team leaked and misrepresented court evidence, in addition to attempting to have the police create a wanted poster with ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari's photo.

Why is Jonathan Majors facing trial?

Jonathan Majors was arrested in Manhattan on March 25 and charged with assault and aggravated harassment following an alleged domestic dispute with his then-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. Majors has pleaded not guilty to the four charges brought against him. If convicted of misdemeanor charges of harassment and assault, he could face up to one year in jail.

According to court filings, the incident involving Jonathan Majors and Grace Jabbari began during a car ride in New York. They allegedly had an argument about a text message on Majors' phone that Jabbari noticed. As detailed in the court documents, Majors purportedly "started grabbing the right side of Ms. Jabbari's body and attempted to remove her right middle finger from the phone, resulting in bruising, swelling, and significant pain. He then seized Ms. Jabbari's arm and right hand, twisting her forearm and causing substantial pain to her finger and arm."

The most severe allegation is that "The defendant subsequently struck Ms. Jabbari's right ear, resulting in a laceration to the back of her ear and significant pain." The trial, set for November 29, will determine the outcome of these allegations. In the meantime, Majors will return as Victor Timely in Loki Season 2 Episode 4, which premieres on Disney+ on October 26, 2023.
