The anime industry has already reached a worldwide reach with the various titles attaining success from all across the globe. Long standing titles continue to grow with spinoffs or new versions. For The Seven Deadly Sins, the anime just landed another show on Netflix with the Four Knights of the Apocalypse, but is that a sequel to the original narrative?
Easily one of Netflix’s biggest anime titles is The Seven Deadly Sins with a plethora of choices on what to watch for the anime from series to movies. Recently, Netflix released The Seven Deadly Sins: Grudge of Edinburgh which followed the child of Meliodas and Elizabeth, the original protagonists of the anime franchise. Now, Netflix reveals that there is an upcoming anime TV series for The Seven Deadly Sins titled Four Knights of the Apocalypse.
To market The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse, Netflix already dropped the official poster for the title which features the heroes and villains of the series. However, in comparison to the official poster of The Seven Deadly Sins: Grudge of Edinburgh, it could be noticed that the characters are not the same. This brings in the question of whether the new show is a series or not.
Is The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse a sequel?
The easy answer is yes, The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse is a sequel to the original series and movies. The upcoming show is a continuation of the same universe of The Seven Deadly Sins. While they share the same continuity, however, new characters are involved in the upcoming title.
The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse is based on the manga series of the same name created by Nakaba Suzuki. The series started with two episodes already which aired in Japan titled The Boy’s Departure and The Unknown Force. The Four Knights of the Apocalypse is the third to be released in the series but it would be the first to arrive on Netflix since Netflix only acquired the rights to stream the title in October 2023. Netflix assures that the first two episodes will arrive on the streaming platform soon.
The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse is set years after Britannia’s most infamous Holy Knights disbanded. The show follows a young child, Percival, who lived a quiet life with his grandfather in God’s Finger. He lives a simple life and loves it but there is something within him that longs for adventure.
Percival found out that he is fated to join a group of four knights who are prophesied to be the destroyers of the world. Because of his destiny, he is targeted by the forces of Camelot, thus, being on the run. With the help of Lancelot, a Liones knight and son of Ban, a Seven Sins member, Percival sets foot outside his comfort zone into a new adventure into the world.
The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse is slated for release on Netflix on October 22, 2023.
