Murder mysteries are fun to crack and solve. There's something in guessing whoever killed who that engages the audience until the very end to find out who the culprit is. For Knives Out and Glass Onion, Benoit Blanc has cracked the code in finding the truth behind surprise deaths that happened within one setting.
Knives Out follows the Massachusets-based Harlan Thrombey, a wealthy novelist, who was killed the day after his 85th birthday. Detective Benoit Blanc found out who the killer is. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, on the other hand, features a billionaire's party attended by Benoit Blanc in Greece gone wrong.
Will there be Knives Out 3?
None other than the director of Knives Out and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery confirmed that Knives Out 3 is happening! Speaking with TheWrap, director Rian Johnson revealed that he is currently working on Knives Out 3, saying "It’s coming along." Johnson added:
I obviously couldn’t work during the strike, and now that it’s over, I’m diving in full force, and so it’s coming along. I’ve got the premise, I’ve got the setting, I’ve got what the movie is in my head. It’s just a matter of writing the damn thing.
Much like the nature of a murder mystery, Rian Johnson ensures the audience that there will be no complacency for Knives Out 3. Johnson states:
Daniel and I have talked a lot about that, how the instant we feel like we’re turning the crank on another one of these, we have to stop. So, it’s very important with each one now, and the third one especially, that it feels kind of scary and dangerous. You have to shake the box.
Knives Out 3 has been planned from the moment Netflix forged a deal with Rian Johnson as he is to produce two sequels to the first movie. Knives Out 3 would be the second out of the multi-million sequel. Working on a $469 million budget for two films, that's already a lot and Johnson did not disappoint when it comes to the substance of his movies.
Who are the cast of Knives Out 3?
If there's one thing viewers are looking forward to in watching the first two movies, it's because both are star-studded! Knives Out and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery both have different sets of Hollywood A-listers and this time, people expect a whole new roster of blockbuster actors to fill in the roles in Knives Out 3. Speaking to Deadline in January 2023, Rian Johnson revealed that the casting only comes after the concept and script of the movie is formed. He said:
No, I'm just starting right now to like kind of fish for ideas.I try my best not to like, think of actors too specifically when I'm writing because I don't want to get my heart broken when they're not available. Right now, I'm just starting to fish for what would be fun to do next, so we'll see.
One thing is for sure, though, Daniel Craig will be back as Benoit Blanc because what is a Knives Out mystery without the character's wit and problem-solving skills. Other than him, it is a clean slate and no same actor has been cast for more than one movie other than Craig. If anything, Johnson is surely going to cast another set of Hollywood A-listers!
