Netflix has dropped the official premiere date and chilling teaser trailer for If Wishes Could Kill, its groundbreaking first YA Korean horror series that promises to blend supernatural dread with the raw pressures of teenage life. The reveal highlights the platform’s bold expansion into genre-bending Korean originals, positioning the new series as a fresh and unsettling addition to its growing library of must-watch content.

The narrative is centered at Seorin High School, where If Wishes Could Kill chronicles the experiences of five tight-knit friends — Yoo Se-ah (Jeon So-young), Lim Na-ri (Kang Mi-na), Kim Geon-woo (Baek Sun-ho), Kang Ha-joon (Hyun Woo-seok), and Choi Hyeong-wook (Lee Hyo-je). Their routine high school lives are violently disrupted when their most fervent wishes begin to materialize, but always accompanied by horrifying repercussions. Leading the project is director Park Youn-seo, recognized for his contributions as second unit director on Kingdom Season 2 and as co-director of Moving, who directs the series from a screenplay written by Park Joong-seop.

The freshly debuted teaser trailer skillfully cultivates a sense of escalating tension and foreboding, offering tantalizing hints that intrigue without divulging key plot points. It commences with a shocking classroom incident in which Choi Hyeong-wook abruptly lunges at Yoo Se-ah while a menacing timer counts down in the background. As the preview progresses, the group is shown documenting their sincere wishes and uploading them via the enigmatic Girigo app, only to witness their existences descend into pandemonium and terror as those desires are fulfilled in progressively dreadful ways.

The trailer accentuates the relentless countdown and mystical undertones while delicately incorporating motifs of camaraderie and self-discovery, priming audiences for a production that supplies authentic frights together with sincere interpersonal dynamics.

Following the trailer’s launch, Netflix introduced the inaugural official poster for If Wishes Could Kill, made available concurrently in English and Korean editions. The compelling imagery portrays a young woman dressed in a school uniform set against a sinister background, prominently showcasing a fractured red smartphone that represents the lethal digital malediction driving the plot.

This launch marks another key step in Netflix’s push to diversify its Korean originals. If Wishes Could Kill adds young adult horror to the lineup, centering on a wish-fulfilling app called Girigo that exacts a deadly price. The rising cast brings believable chemistry to the friendships, while director Park Youn-seo’s experience with Kingdom and Moving helps blend school-life realism with gripping occult suspense.

The production design appears meticulous, with the high school setting providing a familiar yet claustrophobic environment that heightens the horror elements. Visual effects teased in the trailer suggest a polished approach to the supernatural manifestations, ensuring the wishes’ consequences feel viscerally real and unsettling. Music and sound design are likely to play crucial roles in amplifying the atmosphere of dread, transforming ordinary moments into sources of anxiety.
