Hierarchy: Everything You Need to Know About Netflix's New School K-Drama

From the dark comedy thriller The 8 Show, Netflix is now promoting the high school K-drama Hierarchy.

After releasing The 8 Show, Netflix is gearing up for its new school K-drama, Hierarchy. Led by some of today's incredibly talented young cast, it will feature the story of love, friendship, and revenge at a high school where only the top 0.01 percent of students can enter. With its interesting story and premise, here’s everything you need to know about Hierarchy. The new series is already being called "The Korean Elite".

Set in the fictional Jooshin High School, Hierarchy will give viewers a fresh take on the high school drama genre. It will show how the most prestigious school in South Korea favors the wealthiest and most influential while trying to hide secrets that shall never be revealed.

Who are the cast of Hierarchy?

The cast of Hierarchy is composed of several promising new actors, led by Roh Jeong-eui. For other cast members and roles that they will play, you can check the list below:

  • Roh Jeong-eui as Jung Jae-yi, the first daughter of a rich family running the Jaeyool Group.

  • Kim Jae-won as Kim Ri-an, the successor of the Jooshin Group that owns Jooshin High School.

  • Ji Hye-won as Yoon He-ra, the youngest daughter of the owner of the trading company International Yoon.

  • Lee Won-jung as Lee Woo-jin, the second son of a family of powerful politicians.

Is there a teaser for Hierarchy?

On May 16, 2024, Netflix released the official teaser for Hierarchy. It starts with the mysterious death of a Jooshin High School student. The teaser then introduces the school of perfect order and shows the usual lives of young students as they go to class and do activities like ballet, soccer, and fencing. It also gives a glimpse of the lavish lifestyles of the young elites, as they attend a big party while wearing luxury brands.

However, trouble begins when a scholarship student joins the school, and bullying occurs. Ri-an and Kang Ha then get into a heated conversation. “We’re at Jooshing right now,” Ri-an warns Kang Ha. “Don’t do anything you can’t handle.”

Kang Ha then kisses Ri-an’s girlfriend, Jae-yi. With everything happening, Kang Ha can’t help but say, “Everyone at this school is nuts,” while talking to someone on his phone.

Are there preview stills for Hierarchy?

Netflix has released new stills for Hierarchy, focusing on the main characters and the roles they will play. They start with Jeong-eui’s Jae-yi. Also dubbed the Queen of Jooshin High School, her cold gaze hints at the secret she’s trying to hide. In one still, she looks at Kang Ha with surprise as the latter gives her a cute smile, and in another, she sets her eyes on someone while in class.

Jae-won’s Ri-an exudes order and authority as he gracefully enters the room. He eyes the newcomer, Kang Ha, differently. When they meet, he appears to snob the transfer student as he gives him his hand and introduces himself.

There’s also a solo still of Kang Ha. The transfer student looks at Ri-an as they meet in the hallway. By the looks of it, there will be fierce competition between these two when Hierarchy releases.

The stills also feature Hye-won’s He-ra. A wealthy girl herself, she aims to surpass Jae-yi and become the Queen of Jooshin High School. She’s seen fixing herself and happily looking in the mirror upon seeing her beauty. In another, He-ra stands in line with other high school students with a nervous look.

For the last couple of stills, Won-jung’s Woo-jin looks confident as he smiles inside his car and peeks at someone. He, too, lines up with other students, and with his appearance, he seems to be also hiding a secret that will soon be revealed.

What is Hierarchy about?

Hierarchy will follow the story of the five students of Jooshin High School, the most prestigious school in South Korea. Established by the conglomerate Jooshin Group, only students chosen at birth can attend Jooshin. These include Jae-yi, Ri-an, He-ra, and Woon-jin. But with the arrival of the transferred student, Kang Ha, the secret he holds will break Jooshin High School.
