Fans will once again see the story of Simon, Kamina, and Yoko in the upcoming Gurren Lagann The Movie. To celebrate the mecha animated series’ 15th anniversary, its two previous films, Childhood’s End and The Lights in the Sky are Stars, both originally released in 2010, will once again hit the big screens and in 4K and 4D this time. The anime has dropped its official trailer, finally revealing its English sub and dub screening dates in the U.S. on January 16-7 and January 23-24, 2024.
But, of course, the preview will not be complete without seeing the fan-favorite characters saving humanity. The trailer begins with Simon while Kamina talks in the background, telling the protagonist that the drill he possesses will break through the vault of heaven. As the two and Yoko make it to the surface world, they are stunned by what they see.
“This is the surface?” Kamina asks. “It’s so beautiful,” Simon says, amused. “This place isn’t the happy wonderland you seem to think it is,” Yoko adds.
A series of fights begin, with Viral and Bachown fighting on the field. “We exterminate all humans who come to the surface,” Viral declares. This makes Simon scared, revealing he can no longer stand it. But with all their friends on the surface world, one asks, “What do we have to be afraid of?”
At one point, Kamina even says that if someone ever starts to doubt themselves, he advises them to believe in Simon, who he has faith in. From there, the mecha fight has begun.
